Cape Point, South Africa

Day 1: Cape Town

Welcome to Africa and the start your adventure. Our representative will greet you at Capetown Airport and assist with the transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Cape Town

A free day to explore Cape Town. Maybe visit the V & A Waterfront and shop to your heart’s content, head out to Robben Island and see where Mandela spent many years or relax on one of the many beautiful beaches. When nightfall hits, visit one of the many fantastic restaurants - perhaps try some fresh seafood, then head on to one of the many buzzing bars that Cape Town has to offer.

Day 3: Cape Town

Free day.

Day 4: Cape Town - Johannesburg

After breakfast, we will transfer you back to Capetown Airport for your flight to Johannesburg. Our local representative will met you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 6: Johannesburg - Kruger N.P.

An early start this morning for your flights to Hoedspruit and onward transfer to the Timbavati Safari Lodge. Your Game package includes dinner, breakfast, 1 Big 5 sunset/sunrise drive, 1 full day Kruger safari including lunch, 1 day lunch, 1 Kruger sunset drive + transfer, Hoedspruit Airport transfers and 1 guided Timbavati bush walk or cultural village walk

Day 9: Kruger N.P. - Arusha

After your final breakfast in picturesque surroundings, we transfer you back to Hoedspruit Airport for your flights back to Johannesburg to connect with your onward flight to Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania. Our local team will welcome you and transfer you to your accommodation. Enjoy a well deserved rest this evening.

Day 10: Arusha - Serengeti N.P.

Another early start to drive out to Ngorongoro Conservation area to visit a Maasai Village and experience their way of life. We then head to Lake Manyara Airstrip for your afternoon flights to the Serengeti Airstrip. The team from Lemala Mara Camp will be there to greet you. Later enjoy your first dinner at the camp.

Day 11: Serengeti N.P.

Today you will set off on a full day game drive taking a picnic lunch with you. Enjoy the amazing sights of the Serengeti, with its various landscapes, from savannahs, forests, dry river beds and rocky kopjes, all of which offering a better environment for a whole range of animals. Your picnic lunch will be enjoyed in a secluded spot in the park among the wildlife. Return to the camp in the late afternoon for time to relax and a delicious dinner.

Day 12: Serengeti N.P.

After a hearty breakfast, enjoy another day full day game drive in Serengeti National Park with picnic lunch boxes. Tonight enjoy to final dinner back at the camp.

Day 13: Serengeti N.P. - Arusha

Today we bid welcome to the glorious Serengeti. We drive to Serengeti airstrip for the 10:00 departure, arriving in Arusha at 1210. We head to Shanga House for lunch, then continue onto the Mount Meru Game Lodge to relax for the evening.

Day 14: Arusha - Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route

Today, Mrs Acridy will be transferred to the airport for her flight home. For Mike and Miss Acridy, its the start of another adventure. You will meet your guide and start your hike from the Marangu Gate (1800 m). Hike 3 to 5 hours through a fascinating rain forest to Mandara Hut (2700 m). Blue monkeys are sometimes seen. Look for a tiny flower called Impatiens Kilimanjaris; endemic to Kilimanjaro. Picnic lunch en route. Hike to Maundi Crater (45 min) or rest upon arrival at Mandara Hut. Afternoon tea, dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut. Weather: warm and humid. Wear T-shirt, shorts and lighter shoes. Water: available the whole time from a river along the route.

Day 15: Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route

After breakfast start hiking to Horombo Hut (3700 m). Leave the last glade of forest and follow the gently ascending path through the open alpine moorland. Today’s hike takes 5 to 7 hours. Picnic lunch en route. The altitude begins to make itself felt cautioning you to walk slowly. “Pole pole” (slowly slowly in Swahili) is the order of the day while enjoying the flora and long view. Giant Senecios stands tall along the path. Kibo and Mawenzi Peak can be seen on a clear day. Afternoon tea, dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut. Weather: warm in the morning but cooler in the afternoon when clouds gather. Wear shorts, T-shirt and hiking boots. Carry a long sleeved shirt in the day path for the cool winds. Water: fill water bottles at Mandara Hut. There is a stream half way to Horombo Hut.

Day 16: Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route

An extra day at Horombo to acclimatize to the higher altitude. A day walk to “Zebra Rock”, rocks striped by weather. If energy is there, walk to the foot of one of the three peaks on Kilimanjaro, Mawenzi. Return to Horombo in the afternoon. Pack lunch en route, dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.

Day 17: Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route

Hike slowly (6 hours) to Kibo Hut. Today leave moorland and enter the alpine desert past giant lobelia and walk on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi Peak. Pack lunch along the way. Afternoon tea, dinner and overnight at Kibo Hut. Weather: It is cooler as the altitude has increased. Wear trousers and long sleeved shirt. Thin jacket or jumper in the day pack. Water: fill up bottles at Horombo Hut. 2 hours from Horombo Hut is the last water sign. The porters will bring water for tea and the hike in the early morning.

Day 18: Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route

Starting around 2 a.m., reaching Gillman’s Point (5685 m) at sunrise. The path from Kibo to Gillman’s is the most demanding 4 hours on the whole climb. Continue another 2 hours to the roof of Africa, Uhuru Peak (5895 m). Pat yourselves on the back and enjoy this amazing feat! We then descend to Kibo and Horombo Hut. Meals and overnight at Horombo Hut. Weather: cold; effects of high altitude is felt. Wear everything you brought. Water: the porters have carried extra water to Kibo.

Day 19: Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route - Arusha

Today we descend to Marangu Gate. It is easier to go down than up. Enjoy a packed lunch on way down. We will be met at the Marangu Gate and transferred to Mount Meru Game Lodge for a hot shower and a well deserved comfy bed.

Day 20: Arusha

After breakfast, your African Adventure comes to an end. We will transfer you to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight home.
