Welcome to Tanzania! Arrival transfer from Kilimanjaro Airport to the hotel. The remains of the day is at leisure, to rest and relax before we start our trek in the morning.
At 5895m above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and majestically straddles the border between Kenya and Tanzania. Climbing to the top of this dormant volcano is one of Africa’s most exhilarating experiences and today we rise to the challenge. An early start takes us to Kilimanjaro National Park, where we begin our trek through beautiful rainforests on our way up to Mandara Hut, our resting place for the night.
After breakfast we continue our trek across stunning open rolling moorland. The altitude begins to make itself felt so a slow and steady pace is required. Enjoy the flora and the imposing Giant Senecios that stand tall along the path. Some great photo opportunities are to be had. Later we arrive at Horombo Hut where we spend the night.
Enjoy the extra day to acclimatise to the altitude, here at the Horombo Hut.
After a good night’s rest, the trek continues over the ‘saddle’ - a broad desert zone between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. This is the final stage before the challenging summit ascent tomorrow.
Very early this morning, the ascent continues up a steep scree slope to Gilman’s Point (5700m), on the rim of the crater and up to Uhuru Peak. When you spot the ‘Congratulations!’ sign you’ve made it to the ‘roof of Africa.’ Absorb the magnificent views across Tanzania and Kenya. Leaving the summit, it’s all downhill from here back to Kibo Hut for lunch and Horombo Hut for perhaps a low-key celebration and a definite good night’s rest!
Today is the final day of our trek as we make our final descent to Marangu gate and park headquarters. At Marangu gate we sign our names and successful climbers receive their certificates. We meet our driver guide with a packed lunch and drive back to the hotel to take a hot shower and celebrate.
Lake Nakuru National Park is on the itinerary for today. The park's central lake is covered almost all year round with a slight pink tinge thanks to its many resident flamingo. Lunch has been arranged at the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge which overlooks the park. A lovely way to enjoy lunch. After an afternoon game drive you will be transferred back to Naivasha in time for a lake walk before the sun starts to set on yet another action packed day.
We set off to the vast plains of the Serengeti on a full day game drive taking a picnic lunch with us. You will have more time to explore a larger area of the Serengeti, with its various landscapes, from savannahs, forests, dry river beds and rocky kopjes, all of which offering a better environment for a whole range of animals. Your picnic lunch will be enjoyed in a secluded spot in the park among the wildlife. Arrive at your accommodations in the evening.
Another full day game driving in the magnificent Serengeti awaits with an early start ensuring we see the animals at their most active.
Today we will drive back to Kilimanjaro Airport (Via Arusha) in time for your flight home.
