Africa Visa Requirements

Africa is a big continent and some of our African Safaris take you through many countries. The table below is a quick reference guide to which countries you do and do not need a visa for.

The majority of these visas can be obtained at the border however it is essential that you check the visa requirements of every country you will be visiting with the local embassy, consulate or a reputable visa handling company for the most up to date visa information before you travel. African countries are in a continual state of political flux and visa requirements can change overnight. Visa procurement remains the responsibility of the traveller and not that of On The Go.

Mozambique Visas

Australian, New Zealand and Canadian passport holders cannot get a visa upon arrival in Mozambique. If you are unable to obtain a visa prior to departure, it can be obtained from the Mozambique Embassy in Johannesburg which is open Monday – Friday. For more information please contact the embassy or visit: www.embamoc.co.za/visa-applicationsYou will need to arrive into Johannesburg a few days prior to your tour departure date in order to get the visa processed. Mozambique visa regulations change frequently and without notice, so it is essential that all nationalities check the latest advice with the Mozambique embassy.

Please Note:

  • If undertaking one of our longer African Overland Camping Safaris please ensure that your passport has at least 12 free pages.
  • Please also be sure your passport possesses at least 12 months validity beyond the date of your return from Africa.
  • Importantly, if there is a big dissimilarity between your passport photo and your appearance now, apply for a new passport and avoid possible problems at border frontier points.
  • RSA (South Africa) passport holders may need to obtain more visas in advance of arrival compared with passport holders of other countries such as the UK or Australia. If an RSA passport holder, please check your personal visa requirements carefully. Some countries may deny you entry, if you don’t possess a visa obtained in advance of your proposed entry.

Travelling to South Africa with Children

A new South Africa regulation aimed at fighting child trafficking comes into effect 01 June 2015. The UK Foreign Office states:

'All parents travelling with children into or out of South Africa may be asked to show the child’s unabridged (full) birth certificate, and where only one parent is accompanying, parental or legal consent for the child to travel (eg an affidavit from the other parent, a court order or – if applicable – a death certificate). You should travel with these documents in case you’re asked to provide them. There are other requirements for children travelling unaccompanied or with adults who are not their parents. For more information please contact the South African High Commission or the South African Department of Home Affairs.'
