Budget Accommodation Upgrade
If you’re interested in our Overland Safaris but don’t fancy camping, there is the option to upgrade to budget accommodation throughout your trip.
What is it?
The Budget Accommodation Upgrade guarantees you a bed for every night of your trip rather than having to sleep in a tent.
What is the accommodation like?
The accommodation is simple twin share rooms (bedding provided – so no need for a sleeping bag). The accommodation is often very simple and the standard does vary from establishment to establishment. If you’re travelling solo we can match you up in a room with a fellow passenger of the same sex, subject to there already being another solo traveller booked on the trip you wish to join, who wants to share, if not a single supplement will apply and you'll enjoy the privacy of your own room. Please contact us for single supplement rates.
Will I always have my own bathroom?
No. At some campsites you will have to share the ablutions (showers and toilets) with the rest of your truck who are choosing to camp. Some of the rooms are ensuite but we can’t guarantee this at all campsites. Towels aren’t always provided so you will need to bring your own.
Will I still be sharing the truck with those camping?
Yes. If you choose to upgrade to budget accommodation you will still be sharing the truck, the equipment and the chores with your fellow passengers who are camping and staying at the same camp sites. These are Overland Safaris and you will still be travelling by truck, sometimes covering long distances and will also be expected to participate along with everyone else in the day to day chores such as cleaning, washing-up, checking security and helping the safari cook shop and prepare meals.
Can I not just upgrade my accommodation when I get to Africa?
Yes and no. It is sometimes possible to upgrade from camping to a bed for the night at each individual campsite. This can work out as a cheaper option – however we can in no way guarantee you a night’s accommodation (rather than a tent) at every campsite. In order to guarantee yourself a bed, rather than a tent every night on the trip then it is important to pay the upgrade supplement when booking. – that way we can reserve the rooms in advance.
Is the accommodation similar to that on a Lodge Accommodated Safari?
No. This upgrade does not compare to our Lodge Safaris where you will be staying in mid range lodges and hotels. If what you are looking for is nice lodges with great ensuite facilities where you will not need to participate in things like preparing meals and doing the dishes then you should look to book one of our Lodge Safaris instead.
If you’re unsure what to choose our reservations team can provide alternative options for you to consider.
Anything else I need to know?
• The price of the upgrade does not include accommodation in Zanzibar which is paid for locally.
• If you book the optional 3 day Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater excursion there is a camping and an accommodated option. The cost of these and other optional excursions can be found on the tour trip notes. If you opt to camp you will need to bring a sleeping bag.
• Accommodation in Chobe National Park during the overnight mobile excursion is in very basic in pre-erected tents. You will be provided with a stretcher bed and bedding for your comfort.
