Day 1: Johannesburg
Welcome to South Africa! We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Spend the remains of the day at leisure.
Day 2: Johannesburg - Graskop
We depart Johannesburg and head east towards Mpumalanga. A landscape characterized by mountains, panoramic passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests. We spend the night in the town of Graskop, a small forestry town situated on the Drakensberg Escarpment at the start of the panorama route and the gateway to Kruger National Park.
Day 3: Graskop - Kruger N.P.
This morning we start with a scenic drive along the Panorama Route. The most spectacular stretch is the Blyde River Canyon, which is the 3rd largest canyon in the world. We make a stop at Bourke’s Luck Potholes to view these incredible eroded rock formations. In the afternoon we head into Kruger National Park.
Day 4: Kruger N.P.
Big game country - exciting morning and afternoon game drives provide us with excellent opportunities to encounter wildlife. Spot lion, elephant, rhino and other animals in one of the last African wildernesses.
Day 5: Kruger N.P. - Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary
The mountainous Kingdom of Swaziland, lead by King Mswati III, is one of 3 monarchies in Africa. We spend the night in Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaziland’s pioneer conservation area situated in the ‘Valley of Heaven’. Apart from abundant bird life, there are a number of animal species to be seen including hippo, giraffe, crocodile, zebra and antelope.
Day 6: Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary
We will visit the Umphakatsi Chief's homestead where we can try our hand at grinding maize, plaiting mountain grass and singing with the children.
Day 7: Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary - Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park
After visiting a craft market en route, we re-enter South Africa via Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. This afternoon we take a relaxing boat cruiseo the St Lucia Estuary in iSimangaliso National Park - look out for hippos and crocodiles as we ride along.
Day 8: Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park
Today we explore Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve, on a game drive. Hluhluwe Umfolozi is the oldest game reserve in Africa and is a safe haven to both endangered black and white rhino.
Days 9-10: Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park - Drakensberg Mountains
Moving further inland we spend the next two nights adjacent to Royal Natal National Park. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the many activities on offer, such as hiking, mountain biking and fishing. Alternatively just relax and enjoy the views offered by some of the most dramatic scenery in the country.
Day 11: Drakensberg Mountains - Malealea
Today we cross the border into Lesotho, the southernmost landlocked country in the world, rich in natural beauty, flora, fauna and cultural heritage. Here we have a chance to experience traditional Basotho life, a nation with solid traditions, beliefs and customs.
Day 12: Malealea
Today we enjoy pony trekking through the magnificent landscapes that Lesotho has to offer.
Day 13: Malealea - Cradock
We leave the beauty of Lesotho behind us and cross the border back into South Africa and drive to the historical Karoo town of Cradock, founded in 1814 as a frontier stronghold. Best known for its natural sulphur spring, Cradock is a place of literary legends and the original part of the town is graced with some of the finest buildings.
Day 14: Cradock - Addo
Today we drive to Addo Elephant National Park, a conservation success which offers a unique wildlife area, famous for the Addo elephants. We head out on game drives in search of elephant, black rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard with evening viewing at the floodlit waterhole.
Days 15-16: Addo - Tsitsikamma N.P.
Our journey takes us to a region of startling beauty along South Africa’s southern coastline, known as the Garden Route. Indigenous Tsitsikamma forests surround the area and there are walks up the Storms River Gorge and along the rocky coastline or opt to do the world’s highest bungee jump (optional pay locally).
Day 17: Tsitsikamma N.P. - Oudtshoorn
After visiting ‘The Heads’ in Knysna, a town nestled on a tranquil lagoon we travel over the Outeniqua Mountains into the Little Karoo. In Oudtshoorn we visit the famous Cango Caves.
Day 18: Oudtshoorn - Cape Town
Today we visit Stellenbosch, for wine tasting and a cellar tour en route to Cape Town. Once in Cape Town we explore the many attractions the ‘Mother City’ has to offer on a Cape Point tour.
Day 19: Cape Town
A free day to explore Cape Town. Maybe visit the V & A Waterfront and shop to your heart’s content, head out to Robben Island and see where Mandela spent many years or relax on one of the many beautiful beaches. When nightfall hits, visit one of the many fantastic restaurants - perhaps try some fresh seafood, then head on to one of the many buzzing bars that Cape Town has to offer.
