Hazyview is named after the haze that covers the bush during the heat of summer. The small farming town is known for its banana industry and being just outside of Kruger means the area just East of Hazyview has many private game reserves. With beautiful landscapes all around, hot air ballooning is a spectacular experience, giving explorers spectacular vistas across the region. Hiking trails are plentiful and there are also superb restaurants, all with great food and wine choices. Not far away is the Shangana Cultural Village where you can gain an insight into the cultures in the area. Quad-biking, abseiling and river rafting are all available here as well.
Just 5 kilometres from Hazyview is the Elephant Sanctuary, a centre that helps young African elephants to grow and mature in a safe environment so that they can then be safely released into the wild where they should be able to live and survive independently. It is currently the only operation in South Africa that is dedicating to nurturing these creatures in this way – the Elephant Sanctuary has 3 sites, the one in Hazyview, one in Plettenberg Bay and one at Hartbeespoort Dam.
Throughout the region of Hazyview there are dozens of activities on offer as well as some exhilirating places of interest that are truly worth visiting. Abseiling, river tubing and quad biking are just a few of the options thrill-seekers can choose from. For real explorers, excursions to the Sudwala Caves are highly recommended as are trips to the numerous waterfalls scattered throughout the region.
