There’s nothing like an early morning start allowing you to experience one of the most ultimate game viewing sessions. After lunch at camp, return to the parks open plains in search for more wildlife viewing and experiences. As the evening light approaches, you will have sundowners at a picturesque location in the park.
Today you will have a day of volunteering at a local orphanage, where you can help out with the children.
We will transfer you to Moshi, in preparation for the Kilimanjaro climb. Your guide will meet you this afternoon and run through the guidelines for attempting the highest free standing mountain in world (5895 metres above sea level).
At 5895m above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and majestically straddles the border between Kenya and Tanzania. Climbing to the top of this dormant volcano is one of Africa’s most exhilarating experiences and today we rise to the challenge. An early start takes us to Kilimanjaro National Park, where we begin our trek through beautiful rainforests on our way up to Mandara Hut, our resting place for the night.
After breakfast we continue our trek across stunning open rolling moorland up to Horombo Hut where we spend the night. The stark scenery from this altitude is remarkable and the vegetation is very different from the rainforest.
After a good nights sleep. the trek continues over the ‘saddle’ - a broad desert zone, between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. This is the final stage before the challenging summit ascent tomorrow.
Very early this morning, the ascent continues up a steep scree slope to Gilman’s Point (5700m), on the rim of the crater and up to Uhuru Peak. When you spot the ‘Congratulations!’ sign - you’ve made it to the ‘roof of Africa’! Absorb the magnificent views across Tanzania and Kenya. Leaving the summit, it’s all downhill from here back to Horombo Hut for perhaps a low-key celebration and some much needed rest!
Today is the final day of our trek as we continue our descent and exit via the Marangu Gate, before being transferred to the hotel for hot showers and dinner. Tonight you can celebrate your achievement at the hotel bar!
After breakfast we will transfer you to Kilimanjaro airport in time for your departure flight.
