Born in 551 BC, Confucius is renowned as one of the great thinkers and philosophers in history. His teachings are highly revered throughout Asia, especially in his native China, and have had a great influence on Chinese life for thousands of years. Each year festivals are held throughout China to celebrate his birthday. The most spectacular is in his birthplace, Qufu, Shandong Province, which runs from 26 Sep to 10 Oct.
During the festival, there are many cultural events which take place including colourful dance, music and theatrical performances which celebrate his life and teachings. Sacrificial rites are staged daily in front of the Confucius temple and there are exhibitions of calligraphy, traditional crafts and authentic Shandong cuisine on offer.
Our private journeys and tailor-made tours can depart on any day and can therefore be arranged to coincide with this fascinating festival. All of the main celebrations take place in Qufu and our 11 day Postcard from China tour visits Qufu, making it ideal for you to experience the Confucius Culture Festival at its best.
