Day 1

Saturday. Welcome to China and the start of your holiday! Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Spend the rest of the day at your own leisure exploring China’s capital city. Vast squares, magnificent palaces and beautiful gardens are just some of the treasures still visible from the Beijing’s imperial past, while down narrow alleyways one can find charming tea houses, traditional workshops, and quiet courtyards.
Overnight: Beijing

Day 2

First thing this morning we will embark on a guided tour of the city centre, including the legendary Forbidden City, which stood as the residence of emperors and as the political powerhouse of the country for over half a millennia. Today it houses the Palace Museum and is the country’s largest and best-preserved complex of ancient buildings, which we will get to explore. The red-roofed Gate of Heavenly Peace stands entrance to the Forbidden City just off of Tiananmen Square, a vast public space which is home to Chairman’s Mao’s Mausoleum and several historic monuments as well as being a fascinating place to people watch and snap a few pictures.

In the afternoon we will enjoy a rickshaw ride through the Hutongs – or backstreets, of Beijing and in the evening we will witness a jaw-dropping Chinese acrobatic performance. Human pyramids, spinning plates, juggling hoops and swinging ropes are just some of the tricks you can expect to see here. Later we’ll head to a local restaurant for a Welcome Dinner of Peking Duck.
Overnight: Beijing  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3

Today we will drive north of Beijing to a section of the famous Great Wall in Badaling. Stretching some 20,000 kilometres from the east to the west of China across barren desert, lush grassland, and winding mountain peaks, this national icon is an awe-inspiring sight to behold. Spend our time here walking along a stretch of the wall, or simply admire the spectacular views of the valleys below from the towering height of the walls. This evening you can opt take a Beijing by Night city tour, where you’ll get to see some of the city’s famous monuments illuminated against the night sky and visit a bustling night market (booked and payable locally).
Overnight: Beijing  |  Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4

Beijing - Xi’an. Enjoy some free time this morning to do some last minute shopping and sightseeing in Beijing. Why not opt for a stroll to a street market nearby the hotel and try some unusual local delicacies for breakfast! Later we will pay a visit to the Emperor’s Summer Palace situated on Kunming Lake and explore the Silk Alley Markets. From here we will drive past the 2008 Olympic Stadium and Aquatic centre before heading to the train station for our overnight journey to Xi’an (4 berth soft sleeper cabins).
Overnight: Sleeper Train  |  Breakfast

Day 5

Upon arrival in Xi’an we will transfer to the hotel for check-in before heading off to see the legendary Terracotta Warriors. This subterranean army of thousands of warriors, horses and chariots remained undiscovered until 1974, when a group of farmers stumbled upon a treasure trove of ancient pottery while digging a well. While the size of the discovery is impressive in itself, what has truly astounded archaeologists is the minute detail and unique characteristics of each individual warrior, with no two faces alike.
Overnight: Xi'an  |  Breakfast, Lunch

Day 6

Xi’an - Shanghai. This morning is free for you and your family to spend at your own leisure further exploring Xi’An, or alternatively there is the option to book an excursion to see Pandas at the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Centre. With fewer than 1500 thought to be remaining in the wild, the giant panda is considered to be one of the most endangered species in the world and this wonderful centre has dedicated itself to ensuring the survival of the creatures through breeding, research and education. Later we will visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and take a fun bicycle ride around Xi’an’s medieval city walls. We’ll enjoy an early dinner this evening before heading to the train station for our overnight journey to Shanghai.
Overnight: Sleeper Train  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 7

Arriving early in the morning we will be welcomed by a skyline filled with shimmering skyscrapers, gleaming shopping malls, luxurious hotels and thriving art centres in modern Shanghai. After check-in and breakfast at our hotel, we will take a tour of the many city sights including Yuyuan Garden and The Bund – once the trading and commercial centre of Old Shanghai, before ending with a cruise on the Huangpu River.
Overnight: Shanghai  |  Breakfast

Day 8

Shanghai - Suzhou - Shanghai. This morning we will take a high speed train journey to ancient Suzhou, an oriental Venice made up of canals and picturesque waterways which feed into a series of pretty UNESCO-listed gardens. Suzhou sits very close to the Grand Canal, where we will later enjoy a cruise, a tour the Humble Administrator’s Garden and a visit a silk workshop before returning to Shanghai.
Overnight: Shanghai  |  Breakfast, Lunch

Day 9

Sunday. Shanghai. Our tour will come to an end after breakfast and your onward departure transfer to the airport.
