Welcome to China and the start of your holiday! We will meet you at Beijing and transfer you to your hotel.
Today we explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb is located - a patriotic vision of grandeur. We then hed out to explore the Temple of Heaven - a masterpiece or architecture and landscape design. After heading back to the hotel to freshen up, we head out this evening for a traditional Peking Duck dinner.
Today we drive out of the city to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Said to be seen from space, the enduring symbol of Chinese civilisation and genius is a prize national treasure. We also stop for some photo opportunities at the Olympic Stadium.
Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace, we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city, boasting stunning temples, courtyards and reception halls. Afternoon free or ENHANCE option. Later this evening we transfer you to the station for your overnight train to Xian.
After breakfast at our hotel, we visit the archaeological site of the Terracotta Warriors. Discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, the 2,200 year old Terracotta Warriors comprise more than 7,000 life-sized soldiers standing battle-ready in excavated pits under the cover of a modern protective hanger. This evening we enjoy a dumpling Banquet dinner.
Today, we visit the city symbol, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. We then visit the local Muslim Quarter and Great Mosque. Free time or ENHANCE option of bike riding on city wall. Later, we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Shanghai (already booked).
Today, we enjoy guided sightseeing of the city - highlights will be a visit to the Bund. The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road, is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. Onward to see the Jade Buddha Temple and Grand Hyatt Tower.
Today we explore Shanghai's finest traditional gardens - Yu Gardens, the Shanghai Museum, and take a cruise along the Huangpu River - with fabulous views of the new Shanghai - a high tech development of gravity defying skyscrapers.
Zhujiajiao is an ancient water town well-known throughout the country, with a history of more than 1700 years, the little fan-shaped town glimmers like a bright pearl in the landscape of lakes and mountains. We will enjoy viewing unique old bridges across bubbling streams, small rivers shaded by willow trees, and houses with courtyards on our half day tour.
Today we transfer you to your homestay in Suzhou for the next week.
Today we will meet you at Suzhou and transfer you back to Shanghai airport for your flight home full of fond memories of your wonderful experience.
