Welcome to China and the start of your holiday! Enjoy an arrival transfer to our hotel, where you sit back and relax after your long flight. Dinner is included tonight.
We explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace, we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city. We also visit Silk Alley markets.
Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive out of the city to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall that snakes for thousands of kilometres is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Continuing a short distance from Badaling, we visit the tombs of the Ming emperors.
We have a guided visit to the Hutongs before we transfer you to the train station for the afternoon train to Jinan. Upon arrival in Jinan, we will transfer you to the hotel.
Enjoy a visit to the UNESCO listed Tai Shan (Peaceful Mountain), perhaps the holiest of the five Chinese holy mountains devoted to Taoism. The upper reaches are approached by cable-car. We visit Bu Yang Village on the way to Qufu, birthplace of the sage - Confucius.
Although Confucius lived in relative obscurity, his descendents dwelt in the grand Confucius Mansion (Kong Fu). Wielding immense power and wealth, the Kong family, built a palatial mansion, next to which is the Confucius Temple (Kong Miao). We enjoy a rickshaw tour around the Old City and take the overnight train to Xi'an.
Arrive Xi’an at 8 am, we will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. We visit Huaqing Hot Springs, a scenic spot in the shadow of Li Mountain. Before visiting the Terracotta Warrior archaeological site, we visit a workshop where we see the process used to create the terracotta figurines. The Terracotta Warriors are one of China’s most striking sights.
Today, we visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Muslim Quarter. Encircling the old city is Xi’an’s medieval City Wall, where there are beautiful views. We will transfer you to the train station for the overnight train to Suzhou.
We will pick you up from the train station and check you into the hotel. A cruise on the Grand Canal exposes Suzhou’s beauty. Renown for its silk, on our tours that travel to Suzhou, we will visit a silk workshop. We also take you on a guided visit to the Humble Administrators Garden.
Our sightseeing today takes in the Fish-Net Master's Garden and Tiger Hill. We then take you to the train station for the afternoon train to Shanghai.
Once known for its decadent magnetism that attracted fortune-seekers and adventurers, Shanghai looks like a European city in a Chinese setting. A stroll along the famous Shanghai Bund confirms this. Today, we visit the Oriental Pearl TV tower, explore the Jade Buddha Temple, charming Yuyuan Gardens, and the Old City where we can opt to shop on Nanjing Road.
We will transfer you to the train station for the train to Changsha (15:30/23:20). No arrival transfer in Changsha.
We will transfer you to the airport for the flight to Shanghai (20:55/22:25)
