Welcome to China and the start of your exclusive Asian Adventure! Arriving at the airport, you will see our friendly local team waiting to assist you onto the high speed bullet train to Suzhou. Arriving here a short while later a driver will be there to take you to your hotel.
Your guide will take you out to explore the charming city that boasts extensive waterways and canals dotted with traditional bridges, houses and gardens. A cruise on the Grand Canal exposes Suzhou’s beauty, as does our exploration of the humble administrator’s house and garden.
Early this morning we make way back to Shanghai airport on the high speed train to catch the first flight to Chengdu. Arriving here, meet our local team who will take you to visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, the Tomb of Wang Jian and Jinli Lu street - part of the old city where open air theatre and Sichuan Opera are performed in the evening.
Today we spend time at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a short drive out of town. China’s Giant Pandas are considered the most endangered mammal on the planet. Returning to Chengdu city we catch the train to Xi'an that departs at 16:50
Arriving in Xi'an this morning at around 10:00, our guide will meet you and take you onto your hotel in town. Enjoy a bit of a restful morning, before an afternoon out with our guide to see the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and take a casual bicycle ride or walk on top of the 9 mile Xi’an City Wall (no need to go the entire way around) perimeter peeking down upon the lively city beneath us. Conclude the day with a walk around the night markets where you see the locals all come to eat and shop and you can too! Tonight experience the amazing Tang Dynasty show with dinner.
This morning your guide will meet you, and take you out to see the Terracotta Warrior archaeological site where some 7,000 warriors stand in battle ready position, and a factory demonstrating how the warriors are crafted. Enjoy some downtime this afternoon to explore before a later transfer to the station to catch the train to Datong that departs at 22:54
Enjoy the interesting scenery as the train makes it's journey to Datong today. Arriving here at around 15:00, a much needed stretch of the legs is in order after you have freshened up at your hotel, our guide will take you out for a walk and a nice dinner.
Meet your guide this morning, and take a walk around the Yungang Grottoes (some of the first and grandest of Buddhist grottoes containing intricately carved buddhas of all shapes and sizes), Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Wall and Shanua Temple. The Nine Dragon Wall is a 600-year-old Nine-Dragon Screen made up of glazed tiles, the 50m ceramic wall depicts a fire breathing dragon.
Today you head over to the Hanging Temple and the Wood Pagoda for more sightseeing. The Hanging Temple is a sight to behold and is a structure that seriously defies gravity. Constructed on an impossibly precipitous rockface, it literally hugs the cliff.
This morning very early we take you to the station for the 04:00 AM express train to the big smoke of Beijing. Arriving here at around 10:00 AM our local team are on hand to take you to your hotel. This afternoon, we explore the centre of Beijing, China's magnificent capital, including the massive Tian'anmen Square and the sprawling Forbidden City. Boasting some 9999 rooms, the city within a city was once the sole preserve of the Chinese emperors.
Today, we drive beyond Beijing to Badaling, to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Built in the Ming Dynasty, a 6m wide pathway makes a formidable defence, following the highest contours of a steep range of hills. This area of the great wall is suitable for all ages as there are some tough walks and easy walks on the wall. This evening see the spectacular acrobats performing their amazing stunts!
