The Great Wall! Following a ridge of barren hills through northern China, it stretches as far as the eye can see - at least 6,700 kms. Continuing, a visit is made to the tombs of the Ming emperors, where some 13 emperors were interred. Also, we'll visit a cloisonne workshop, where you’ll see the production of decorative items, an ancient craft.
This morning we visit the Summer Palace with its UNESCO-listed Imperial Gardens, located on Kunming Lake, This afternoon at leisure.
Today we visit to the famous Tiananmen Square, home to the mausoleum of Chairman Mao Tse-tung, the People’s Heroes. Followed by a visit to The Forbidden City, built between 1406 & 1420, it served as the imperial palace for the Ming & Qing dynasties. Later this evening we board our overnight train.
Xi’an, perhaps most famous for the discovery of Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Warriors. Discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, the 2,200 year old Warriors comprise more than 7,000 life-sized soldiers. No two faces are alike. We will also visit Huanqing Hot Springs, a scenic spot in the shadow of Li Mountain and a workshop where warrior replicas are made.
Today, we'll be visiting the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, before enjoying a leisurely bike ride on Xian’s Medieval City Wall, which dates from the Ming Dynasty. Free time before our train to Luoyang.
Travelling on today we take the train to Shaolin, with an afternoon visit to Shaolin Temple - built by the Emperor Hsiao-Wen in AD 477, as well as a Fu Lesson.
Day at leisure. This evening we travel by train to Chengdu (approx 22hours). Please buy some food today to take on your train journey.
Arriving into Chengdu, we are met and transferred to our hotel, remainder of today at leisure.
After breakfast you will venture to the Panda Centre. Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre has been created and imitates the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding.
Departing for the airport, today we fly to Lijiang - Tiger Leaping Gorge. Remainder of today free to explore.
Lijiang ancient city tour. Today we discover Tiger Leaping Gorge. Some 16km long and up to 3000m deep, it is the worlds deepest canyon. The gorge is so narrow at various points that legend has it a tiger once escaped pursuit by leaping across.
Flying onto Chongqing today where we will met up with our 3 Gorges Cruise.
Good morning from the River Yangtze! At 6340km in length, the Yangtze is the 3rd longest river in the world, neatly dividing China into north and south, and winding its way through eight very different provinces. Enjoy spectacular vistas passing through all of the famous Gorges.
Sit back and enjoy the views as we cruise our way through the spectacular vistas of the famous Gorges - Qutangxia Gorge, Wuxia Gorge, Xiling Gorge on your way to Wuhan.
Today marks the end of our cruise, upon arrival into Wuhan we are transferred to the airport in Yichang for our short flight to Shanghai. Arriving there we are met and transferred to our hotel where we can unwind and get ready for tommorows excursion.
Free morning. After lunch we will visit the Yuyuan Garden, Jade Buddha Temple, the Old City and Nanjing road for shopping. Later we have a cruise on the Huangpu river, before our night visit to the TV Tower to see the evening skyline of Shanghai.
Day at leisure in Shanghai. Bidding farewell to China this late this afternoon we are transferred to airport today for our included flight south to Hong Kong
