Welcome to China and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours! Upon your arrival at Shanghai's international airport you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day can be spent at leisure.
The mere mention of ‘Shanghai’ conjures up mystery, romance and general decadence. Pre–1949 cosmopolitan Shanghai was a magnet for seekers of wealth, idle colonialists, explorers and the dispossessed. A legacy of these heady times is Shanghai’s Bund where on and around this waterfront promenade are a series of grandiose pre-1949 buildings. Just across the Huangpu River is the new Shanghai, a high-tech development of gravity defying skyscrapers. Today tour many of the city’s top spots including the Yu Gardens and Bazaar, the Bund, Pudong and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.
This morning take a high speed train journey to ancient Suzhou. A sort of oriental Venice, ancient Suzhou is interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways which feed a series of classical gardens laid out here since the Song dynasty a thousand years ago. Suzhou sits very close to the Grand Canal and today enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal as well as a tour of the Humble Administrator’s Garden and a visit to a silk workshop.
Today take the high speed train to the city of Hangzhou. Straddling the large Xi Hu Lake with large tracts of fertile farmland surrounding the city, Hangzhou has been an important cultural centre of centuries. The lake is dotted with various islands and causeways, whilst the shoreline offers wonderful vistas of green trees, hills, flowers, pavillions, pagodas and boats. Today we explore the lake and enjoy a bicycle ride before visiting the Lingyin Temple, one of China's most famous Buddhist temples.
This morning we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Chongqing where upon your arrival you will visit the People's Square before embarking on your three night Yangtze River Cruise. Later this evening dinner will be served on board and the ship sets sail around 10pm.
Day 2 on board the Yangtze River cruise. Enjoy a leisurely morning soaking up the scenery of the Yangtze. In the afternoon there's the option of a shore excursion to Fengdu (Ghost City) and the impressive wooden Shibaozhai pavilion. Later in the evening back on board join the Captain's Welcome Dinner.
During day 3 on board the Yangtze River cruise you will pass the Qutang gorge, the shortest, narrowest, yet most impressive, of the Three Gorges, and later the incredibly beautiful Wu gorge. Disembark for an excursion to Shennong stream by open sampan. Returning to the cruise ship continue through Xiling gorge, the longest of the three.
Your final day on board the Yangtze cruise brings the opportunity to visit the Three Gorges Dam, the grandest hydroelectric project in the world. After lunch and arrival into Yichang, disembark from the cruise ship and transfer to railway station for the high speed train to Wuhan where you will then be transferred to the airport for your flight south to Guilin.
This morning drive to Longsheng to explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone. Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon-like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below.
This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full day's excursion. The 90km Li River cruise is the highlight of any trip to northeastern Guangxi province. Gorgeous karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies and school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. After passing many world-renowned sights such as Elephant Trunk Hill and Pagoda, arrive in to Yangshuo with hotel check in.
This morning we transfer back to Guilin by road from where you will fly to Xi'an. Upon your arrival into Xi'an you will be met and transferred to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.
Today discover the marvellous Terracotta Warriors archaeological site. Some 7000 warriors stand battle-ready and have done so for the past 2,200 years. A visit to a clay workshop specialising in making replica figurines is also included. The remainder of the evening is at leisure or perhaps you'd like to opt for our Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show (please see Enhance Options page of the quote).
Spend the morning at leisure before a guided excursion to the ancient Buddhist Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Take a casual bicycle ride on top of the nine mile city wall with views over the lively city below. Later this evening we will transfer you to the railway station for your overnight sleeper train to China's capital - Beijing.
Upon your morning arrival into Beijing you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is completely free. Perhaps opt to explore the incredible Forbidden City or head out of town for a walk on the legendary Great Wall.
