This morning, we explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors, we enjoy a guided tour of this old city within a city. Later we take a rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing, weaving through old back lanes, traditional courtyards and compact houses.
Today, we drive beyond Beijing to Badaling, to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Built in the Ming Dynasty, a 6m wide pathway makes a formidable defence, following the highest contours of a steep range of hills. Don some comfortable shoes as today you get the chance to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Zig zagging some 6000km, ducking and weaving through mountain peaks and lush terrain. On our return to Beijing, we explore the Ming Tomb.
This morning we visit the Summer Palace, set on Kunming Lake. Later we visit the Silk Alley markets to hunt for some serious shopping bargains at the gargantuan Silk Alley Markets. On our return to the hotel we view from a distance the 2008 Olympic stadium commonly referred to as the ‘birdsnest’ and aquatic centre.
Located in the heart of bustling Beijing, the Temple of Heaven is an oasis of peace and a striking example of architectural order and symmetry. Enjoy a guided tour of the temple and park. Afternoon at leisure. This evening we transfer to the train station for our overnight train to Xian.
Arriving into Xi'an early this morning, transfer to your hotel and enjoy some time to freshen up. Later today discover the marvellous Terracotta Warriors archaeological site. Some 7000 warriors stand battle-ready and have done so for the past 2,200 years. A visit to a clay workshop specialising in making replica figurines is also included. The remainder of the evening is at leisure or perhaps you'd like to opt for our Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show (please see Enhance Options page of the quote).
Spend the morning at leisure before a guided excursion to the ancient Buddhist Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Take a casual bicycle ride on top of the nine mile city wall with views over the lively city below. The day concludes with a visit to the Muslim Quarter of the city, giving you a great insight into the religious diversity of China.
Today we will visit famous Bell tower, later on transfer to train station for you sleeper train to Chengdu.
Arrival at Chengdu,met by guide and transfer to hotel. Later on we visit Wuhou Memorial Temple, the Tomb of Wang Jian and Jinli Lu Street.
Today we will travel about 10km north to the Giant panda breeding Reserch Base where you will catch a glimse of some of the 40 Pandas that reside here. Tonight you can have free time to spend some time at the Quingshiqiao Markets.
Driving to Leshan our morning is spent exploring the the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Dafo (Great Buddha), which is carved into the red sandstone face of Lingyun Hill. Driving onward take in the views from Emei Shan (Mt Emei) designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its incredible natural beauty and historical Buddhist sites.
This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival we are met and transferred to our hotel. The mere mention of ‘Shanghai’ conjures up mystery, romance and general decadence. Pre–1949 cosmopolitan Shanghai was a magnet for seekers of wealth, idle colonialists, explorers and the dispossessed. A legacy of these heady times is Shanghai’s Bund where on and around this waterfront promenade are a series of grandiose pre-1949 buildings. Just across the Huangpu River is the new Shanghai, a high-tech development of gravity defying skyscrapers. This afternoon we explore the famous Bund and Nanjing Road.
Today we tour many of the city’s top spots including the Yu Gardens, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Jade Buddha Temple and a cruise along the Huangpu River.
This morning take a high speed train journey to ancient Suzhou. A sort of oriental Venice, ancient Suzhou is interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways which feed a series of classical gardens laid out here since the Song dynasty a thousand years ago. Suzhou sits very close to the Grand Canal and today enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal as well as a tour of the Humble Administrator’s Garden and a visit to a silk workshop before returning to Shanghai.
This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight to Guilin. Upon arrival we transfer to our hotel. Today we venture out to explore The Reed Flute Cave. Within the cave there are enchanting stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains and stone flowers. Continue on to Elephant Trunk Hill. Located at the confluence of the Taohua (Peach Blossom) River and the Li River, this hill is too famous to be missed.
This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full day's excursion. The 90km Li River cruise is the highlight of any trip to northeastern Guangxi province. Gorgeous karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies and school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. After passing many world-renowned sights such as Elephant Trunk Hill and Pagoda, arrive in to Yangshuo and visit Yangshuo West Street.
This morning offers free time to explore Yangshuo before we transfer back to Guilin. This afternoon at leisure. Tonight we board our overnight train to Guangzhou.
Upon arrival we transfer to our train for our journey to Hong Kong. Upon arrival we are met and transferred to our hotel. Remainder of today at leisure.
Today you you will enjoy a half day tour of Hong Kong covering the major highlights of this fascinating city. The tour will take in Repulse Bay, Victoria Peak and Aberdeen. The tour will end after lunch, at about 2:30 pm. Hong Kong is known for its shopping and there will be some free time for you to go out bargain hunting this afternoon.
Aftert breakfast we enjoy a half day tour of Macau - a city with two faces with a uniquely Mediterranean style on the China coast. Colonial fortresses, churches and distinctly Portuguese food contrasts with the glitz and glam of Vegas-style mega hotels and casinos. In 2005 UNESCO named 30 buildings and squares collectively as the Historic Centre of Macau World Heritage Site, providing a unique testimony to the fusion of East and West.
Today we bid you farewell with a transfer to Hong Kong airport to meet your onward flight.
