Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) Travel

Considered the most beautiful mountain in China, Yellow Mountain or Huangshan is one of a range of 72 peaks in the south of Anhui Province. Set amidst rural landscapes and with its slopes clad in pine, the ethereal scenery is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s said that once you’ve ascended the peaks, you’ll never want to climb another mountain, such is its beauty. The experience is staggeringly scenic, with pinnacles emerging from thick bamboo forests and exposed rock faces dotted with conifers.

Huangshan’s landscape has left an indelible impression on Chinese painters, and your local Chinese restaurant may have some Chinese landscape paintings gracing the walls. Common subject matter includes Huangshan and the strikingly unusual karst limestone landscapes of Guilin in China’s southern Guangxi Province.
Steps have been neatly carved into the mountain, which rises to 1870m, for those that want to walk the easier eastern route, though there is a return cable-car journey to the scenic area.

As a pilgrimage site that has attracted emperors and Party Leaders alike, Huangshan is regarded as sacred in China. Likened to adherents of the Muslim faith making a pilgrimage to Mecca for Haj, indeed, it is the ambition of every Chinese to conquer Huangshan at least once in their lifetime. As such, the crowds are healthy. However, nature is never far away, ready and waiting to reassert itself with the offer of a stunning vista.
