Great Wall

Day 1: Beijing

On arrival into Beijing International Airport you will be met by and On The Go Representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure, so you can start exploring Beijing independently or relax and rest up for the evening at the hotel. Overnight - Beijing

Forbidden City

Day 2: Beijing

Today you will set out to sightsee the nation's capital, starting with Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Tiananmen Square - home to the Monument of the People's Heroes and many important events in Chinese history - most notably the 1989 Student Protests. The Forbidden CIty - so called as it was only visited by people on Imperial business up until 1911 - is a vision in grandeur with yellow roofs, vermilion walls and the innermost sanctum of Beijing. This afternoon you will walk through the city's many temples, grand halls and courtyards before visiting the Temple of Heaven later today. Overnight - Beijing

Day 3: Beijing

Beijing - Mutianyu. Today you take a journey outside of the city to the most famous wall in the world - the Great Wall of China. Take a walk or maybe even a climb on some of the lesser visited parts of the wall - a much more fulfilling and intimate experience of the wall! Later on you can opt to see how they make traditional noodles and sample them afterwards. When you have walked enough of the wall - you return to Bejing for your final night there. Day 4: Beijing - Xi'an

This morning is free to further explore Beijing, shop till you drop or take a leisurely walk to the temple of heaven and join in some Tai Chi in a local park. This afternoon you head over to the Summer Palace with its UNESCO listed imperial gardens on Kunming Lake. Tonight you'll be transferred to the train station for your overnight sleeper train to Xi'an. Overnight - Sleeper Train

Day 5: Xi'an

Xi'an. Your morning in Xi'an starts with a visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda before a leisurely bike ride around the City Wall, which dates from the Ming Dynasty. You then head to the local Muslim Quarter and the Great Mosque. Overnight - Xi'an

Day 6: Xi'an - Chengdu

Xi'an - Chengdu. Home to the world famous Terracotta Warriors, which were discovered in 1974 by local farmers who were digging for a well. These soldiers are over 2200 years old and no two warriors are the same - it is believed they are a self portrait of the individual soldiers. After an informative look around this battle ready army you'll visit local crafts people who make clay warrior replicas which you can purchase. This evening you head for the station and board another overnight sleeper train - this time to Chengdu - land of the Giant Pandas! Overnight - Sleeper Train

Day 7: Chengdu

Awaken this morning in Chengdu - capital of Sichuan province - famed for its outstanding natural beauty, fiery cuisine and China’s first, largest and best known Panda research and breeding centre. On arrival into the station you'll be transferred to your hotel. Afterwards, visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, the Tomb of Wang Jian and Jinli Lu street - part of the old city where an open air theatre and Sichuan Opera are performed in the evening you can opt to book and attend a performance locally if you like. Overnight - Chengdu

Day 8: Chengdu - Yangtze & Three Gorges

After breakfast you will venture to the Panda Centre. Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre has been created and imitates the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding. It's a full day excursion where you will also get to see other endangered species and the famous giant Buddha sculpture.

Days 9-10: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Yangtze River cruise. Good morning from the River Yangtze! At 6340km in length, the Yangtze is the 3rd longest river in the world, neatly dividing China into north and south and winding its way through eight very different provinces. The Gorges are a breathtaking sight! Whilst cruising, shore excursions are offered at no additional expense to Shibaozhai and Shennong stream, with its unique scenery and four natural gorges. Drift serenely along the stream in small, open ‘pea pod boats’, looking out upon lush greenery, jagged peaks and ancient villages of the Tujia people - one of the local ethnic minorities. Day 11: Yangtze & Three Gorges - Nanjing

Yichang - Nanjing. We disembark from our cruise in Yichang late this morning. After lunch we take a high speed train bound for Nanjing. Reaching speeds of over 310km per hour we head to Nanjing in just a little more than 5.5 hours arriving late evening.

Day 12: Nanjing

Nanjing. Spend the morning at leisure before we enjoy lunch and embark on our afternoon city sightseeing tour. Former capital of the Ming Dynasty and capital of Republican China, from 1911 - 1949, Nanjing holds a rich history of both ancient and modern China. We visit the Fuzi Miao (Temple of Confucius) and the Memorial Hall of the Nanjing Massacre, which is a moving experience that charts the atrocities committed at this very site. Overnight - Nanjing

Day 13: Nanjing - Shanghai

A short train journey East brings to you Shanghai. The mere mention of this city conjures up mystery, romance and general decadence. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation. Enjoy the rest of today at your leisure exploring this city on your own. Overnight Shanghai.

Day 14: Shanghai

Today, we journey to Suzhou by high speed train. A sort of oriental Venice, ancient Suzhou is interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways. We enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal and visit a silk workshop. Return back to Shanghai. Overnight Shanghai.

Day 15: Shanghai

Today is free for you to venture to the Old City, French Quarter or opt to shop along the famous Nanjing road. Overnight Shanghai.

Day 16: Shanghai - Qufu

Free time is offered today. This evening we bunk down in our soft sleeper train cabins en route to Qufu. Sleeper Train to Qufu

Day 17: Qufu

Qufu, birthplace of Confucius and home to the Confucius Temple, ranks with Beijing’s Forbidden city as a great classic Chinese architectural complex. The grandeur and opulence of the mansion conveys the power and wealth of the mighty Kong clan. After visits to the mansion and temple we take a rickshaw ride around the city wall with a visit to the eerie Confucius forest. The forest is studded with tombs and graves of Kong family members dating back some centuries. Anyone with the surname Kong can still be buried here today. Evening stroll through the colourful night market. Overnight - Qufu

Day 18: Qufu - Jinan

A short drive leads us to Bu Yang Village. The principles of Communism and communal work and land ownership are somewhat still in place here. We stop for a light lunch at Mr Peng’s (one of the party officials) home. This is real village life! A short stroll leads us to the village prep-school, (our Change 4 Children project) we step into the class room to be swarmed by the mass of 5yr olds all vying for our attention. Later we drive to Mt Tai Shan. There are more than 6000 steps to the summit, streams of pilgrims take the challenge, we take the cable car. With stunning scenery and many ancient temples dotting the slopes we visit Heaven Street, Cloud Bridge and the Jade Emperor’s temple. Overnight - Jinan

Day 19: Jinan - Beijing

Jinan - Beijing. Today, we embark on a short city sightseeing tour and enjoy a fabulous Hotpot lunch. Afternoon express train journey to Beijing. Overnight - Beijing

Tour ends after breakfast and included onward transfer to airport.
