On arrival into Beijing International Airport you will be met by and On The Go Representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure, so you can start exploring Beijing independently or relax and rest up for the evening at the hotel.
This morning is free to explore Beijing, shop till you drop or take a leisurely walk to the temple of heaven and join in some Tai Chi in a local park. This afternoon you head over to the Summer Palace with its UNESCO listed imperial gardens on Kunming Lake. Tonight you'll be transferred to the train station for your overnight sleeper train to Xi'an
Your morning in Xi'an starts with a transfer from the station to your hotel. This is followed with a visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda before a leisurely bike ride around the City Wall, which dates from the Ming Dynasty. You then head to the local Muslim Quarter and the Great Mosque.
Home to the world famous Terracotta Warriors, which were discovered in 1974 by local farmers who were digging for a well. These soldiers are over 2200 years old and no two warriors are the same - it is believed they are a self portrait of the individual soldiers. After an informative look around this battle ready army you'll visit local crafts people who make clay warrior replicas which you can purchase. This evening you head for the station and board another overnight sleeper train - this time to Chengdu - land of the Giant Pandas!
Awaken this morning in Chengdu - capital of Sichuan province - famed for its outstanding natural beauty, fiery cuisine and China’s first, largest and best known Panda research and breeding centre. On arrival into the station you'll be transferred to your hotel. Afterwards, visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, the Tomb of Wang Jian and Jinli Lu street - part of the old city where an open air theatre and Sichuan Opera are performed in the evening you can opt to book and attend a performance locally if you like.
This morning fly to Jiuzhaigou - a region that for centuries has been inhabited by various Tibetan and Qiang people. Tour the Huanglong Monastery - built during the reign of Ming Emperor Hongwu, it is now a place of worship for the local Tibetan, Han, Qiang and Hui people, all of which have different religious beliefs. Afterwards enjoy a relaxing stroll by the region’s famed calcium travertines. Resembling a terraced field, the travertines flow gently into a series of multi-coloured, mineral rich ponds beneath. Onward travel to Jiuzhaigou.
Today is spent exploring the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Reserve. The Jiuzhaigou reserve is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty. It’s home to densely growing conifers, broadleaf trees and of rare and endangered animal species. Ancient Chinese legend has it that the goddess Semo accidentally smashed her mirror here and the pieces that fell down the mountain formed beautiful lakes, streams and waterfalls. Afterwards, visits will be made to Pearl Beach Falls, Nuorilong Falls and Long Lake. The ever flowing cascade of Nuorilong spans an impressive 320 metres - making it the widest waterfall in all of China.
Morning flight returning to Chengdu. An hour’s drive to the north west leads you to the ancient city of Dujiangyan. It was here, in 256 BC that provincial governer Li Bing set up the Dujiangyan Irrigation Scheme. Here we tour the dam site, view the Anlan Suspension Bridge and the Dragon Taming Temple.
A short drive out of town takes you to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Enjoy lots of free time here to learn about everything panda and even get up close with our cuddly friends before returning to your hotel in Chengdu.
Driving to Leshan your morning is spent exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Dafo (Great Buddha), which is carved into the red sandstone face of Lingyun Hill overlooking the treacherous confluence of the Min, Qingyi and Dadu rivers below it. Talking numbers, his ears droop 7m, his shoulders span 28m and his nose measures a whopping 5.6m! Later you return to the city and to the airport for your flight to Guilin. Arriving there our friendly local rep awaits for you in arrivals and transfers you to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure
Today we pay a visit to The Reed Flute Cave where there are enchanting stalagmites, stone pillars, stele, stone curtains and stone flowers. Then, we continue on to Elephant Trunk Hill Located at the confluence of the Taohua (Peach Blossom) River and the Li River, this Hill is too famous to be missed.
This morning you take a river cruise along the River Li including a delicious lunch. In the afternoon take a visit to West Street, the oldest street in Yangshuo and home to a vast array of craft and calligraphy shops, cafes, restaurants and Kung Fu academies.
This morning you are transferred back to Guilin by car, for your flight to Shanghai. Arriving here, our local guide is on hand to transfer you to your hotel.
Today, we journey to an oriental Venice via high speed train - ancient Suzhou interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways. We cruise on the Grand Canal at 1800km in length it's the longest canal on earth and ranks alongside the Great Wall as China’s greatest engineering achievement, and visit a silk workshop.
Your Oriental adventure has come to an end, we will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
