This morning explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao's tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Enjoy a guided tour of the vast Forbidden City, a city within a city that was once the seat of the emperors. Later we visit the beautiful Temple of Heaven.
Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive out of the city to Mutianyu, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. You will have a cable car round trip included). Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall that snakes for thousands of kilometres is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Continuing a short distance from Badaling, we visit the tombs of the Ming emperors. We also make a visit to a cloisonne workshop, where we’ll see firsthand the unique Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces.
Today we head out with a guide to the Summer Palace. Set on beautiful Kunming Lake, the palace grounds containing various temples, gardens, pavilions, bridges and gate-towers are a marvel of landscaping. We stop at the Olympic Stadium with time for photographs.
We will transfer you to the airport this morning for the flight to Lhasa. On arrival we will check you into the hotel.
We begin our exploration of this mystical city first heading to Lhasa’s most enduring image, the Potala Palace, the winter home of the Dalai Lama. However, it is the Jokhang Temple which will be the most enlightening stop of the day, being the holiest shrine in Tibet. We then head to Barkhor Street, to experience the Barkhor markets which surround the Jokhang temple and sell all things Tibetan. Overnight - Gangjian Hotel.
We set off for the Dalai Lama’s Summer palace. A less daunting palace than Potala Palace, it is surrounded by gardens and it was from here the present Lama fled in the 1950’s. We then head to the 15th century Drepung Monastery, which was formerly one of the central monasteries of Tibet. It was torn asunder during the Cultural Revolution and continues to rebuild is walls and status today. Overnight - Gangjian Hotel.
We transfer you back to Lhasa airport today, for the flight to Xi'an. On arrival we will check you into the Xi'an hotel.
Today discover the marvellous Terracotta Warriors archaeological site. Some 7000 warriors stand battle-ready and have done so for the past 2,200 years. A visit to a clay workshop specialising in making replica figurines is also included. Next is the lofty Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The complex of temples, pagodas and expansive gardens constructed during the 7th century offered refuge and a store house for Chinese Buddhists to translate the very important Buddhist sutras from India. Next enjoy a leisurely bicycle ride (solo or tandem) atop the well-preserved Xi’an city wall. At a minimum of 6 metres in width, 9 miles in length with no steep inclines, the wall offers a great vantage point for peeping down upon the city hubbub below. Visit the Great Mosque and the Muslim Quarter.
We will transfer you to the airport for the flight to Jiuzhaigou (via Chengdu). On arrival we will check you into the hotel. We then set out to the Huanglong Scenic & Historic Interest Area where you have an included return chair lift.
Today is spent exploring the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Reserve. Located in the high Min Shan mountain range, the Jiuzhaigou reserve is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty. It's home to densely growing conifers, broad leaf trees, stunning lakes, streams and waterfalls, and rare and endangered animal species such as takins, golden monkeys, giant pandas and white-lip deer. Afterwards, visits will be made to Pearl Beach Falls, Nuorilong Falls and Long Lake. The ever-flowing cascade of Nuorilong spans an impressive 320 metres, making it the widest waterfall in all of China. We will then transfer you to the airport for the flight to Chengdu and on arrival we will check you into the hotel. Overnight - Tianfu Sunshine Hotel.
Today we drive to Leshan the morning is spent exploring the the UNESCO-listed Dafo (Great Buddha), which is carved into the red sandstone face of Lingyun Hill overlooking the treacherous confluence of the Min, Qingyi and Dadu rivers below. Driving onward take in the views from Emei Shan (Mt Emei) designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its incredible natural beauty and historical Buddhist sites. This morning we travel by cable car to the top of Mt Emei to tour the magnificent Wannian temple. The oldest structure on the mountain, its contents are stunning: three thousand tiny iron Buddhas surround a life sized enamelled bronze sculpture of Bodhisattva Puxian (the protector of the mountain) riding a gilt lotus flower astride his great six tusked white elephant. Weighing over 62 tonnes and standing over 7 metres in height the masterpiece had to be bought to the mountain top in pieces. Returning to Chengdu we visit Jinli Old Street. After breakfast you will venture to the Panda Centre. Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre has been created and imitates the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding. We then take you to the New Century Global Centre and Contemporary Art Centre. Afterwards we transfer you to the airport for the flight to Guilin. On arrival we will check you into the hotel.
This morning drive to Longsheng to explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone. Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon-like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below. You will also have a bicycle ride before we return to Guilin.
This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full day's excursion. The 90km Li River cruise is the highlight of any trip to northeastern Guangxi province. Gorgeous karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. We will then take you to see the Cormorant fishing.
We will transfer you back to Guilin and take you to visit to The Reed Flute Cave. Within the cave there are enchanting stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains and stone flowers, lit with an array of coloured lights. We also visit Mirror Lake and Guilin City. We then transfer you to the airport for the flight to Shanghai and on arrival we will transfer you to Suzhou.
A sort of oriental Venice, ancient Suzhou is interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways which feed a series of classical gardens laid out here since the Song dynasty a thousand years ago. Suzhou sits very close to the Grand Canal and today enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal as well as a tour of the Garden of the Master of the Fishing Net, Panman Gate and Lion Grove Garden.

Once known for its decadent magnetism that attracted fortune-seekers and adventurers, Shanghai looks like a European city in a Chinese setting. A stroll along the famous Shanghai Bund confirms this. Today, we visit the Oriental Pearl TV tower, explore the Jade Buddha Temple, charming Yuyuan Gardens, The Shanghai World Financial Centre, Tainzifang and have a bus tour around Pudong, as well as a cruise on the Huangpu River.
