Travelling west, we journey to Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. One of China’s most charming cities, it’s fame rests on it’s waterways, and canals that are dotted with traditional bridges, houses and gardens. A cruise on the Grand Canal exposes Suzhou’s beauty. Renown for it’s silk, we also visit a silk workshop before returning to Shanghai. Overnight Shanghai
Today explore the older parts of Shanghai today with a visit to the French Concession and Shikumen a traditional Shanghainese architectural style combining Western and Chinese elements . Later this afternoon board your flight to Yichang where you will board your Cruise boat.
The Gorges are a breathtaking sight. The first gorge we pass through is the shortest and narrowest of the three; Qutangxia Gorge. Here, the dramatic 1200m limestone peaks are often shrouded in mist and the river shoots through the narrow entrance with great haste. Next comes Wuxia Gorge, which straddles Sichuan and Hubei Provinces. Lined by twelve sheer peaks, Wuxia offers an awesome vista for some 45km. Finally is Xiling Gorge, the longest at 75km and which comprises seven smaller gorges. During our cruise, we’ll also sail through the new ship locks of the impressive Three Gorges Dam construction.
Disembarking your cruise in Chongqing you will be met by our local representative and transferred to the airport for your flight to Guilin. Welcome to Guilin, Guangxi Province! Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Guilin.
This morning we drive to Longsheng. Here, we explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone! Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Where there is soil a terrace has been made! Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, we climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below. Returning back to Guilin for our overnight. Overnight Guilin.
This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full days excursion. The 90 Km Li River cruise is the centerpiece of any trip to northeastern Guangxi Province. Gorgeous Karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies, school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. After passing many world renown sights such as Elephent Trunk Hill, Pagoda Hill and more you arrive in to Yangshuo where you can explore.
Choose to go boating along Yu Long rivers, cycling, hiking, rafting or rock climbing or simply spend the day exploring this charming village laden with quirky shops, tea shops, antiques, art t-shirt designers and souvenir curios. Maybe take a calligraphers or beginners art class with a local painter or enjoy a morning class at the ‘Cloud 9’ cooking school. Overnight - Yangshuo
Returning to Guilin we tour the enormous Reed Flute Caves. Take an afternoon stroll along the picturesque riverside foot bridges and paths before our overnight train journey to Kunming. Overnight - Sleeper Train
