Day 1: Kunming

Huan Ying welcome to China and the start of your holiday! You will be met at the airport by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. The capital of Yunnan Province, Kunming rests at 2000m above sea level. Its gentle weather and floral wealth have earned it the nickname ‘City of Eternal Spring’. Later today, you’ll visit the picturesque Western Hills and the Dragon Gate Grotto. Overnight Kunming Jinjiang Hotel

Day 2: Kunming

Today we enjoy an excursion to Stone Forest. Celebrated as a natural wonder, it’s Yunnan’s most visited sight. As you stroll along the winding paths and lookout points, you’ll be in awe of the bizarre, tightly packed formations of almost ‘petrified’ stone that forms this unusual attraction 120 km from Kunming. Day 3: Kunming - Dali

You will be transferred to the train station for your day train to Dali. Our representative will meet you on arrival and take you to your hotel. Picturesquely situated on Lake Erhai with a backdrop formed by the peaks of the 50km long Cang Shang range, Dali is a great place for some gentle-paced exploration and a little relaxation. Covering only about 4 sq km, much of Dali is contained by the remains of its Mingdynasty walls. Overnight Dali Landscape Hotel

Day 4: Dali

Sightseeing today includes a cruise on Lake Erhai, a visit to Butterfly Spring - a popular spot surrounded by a marble balustrade and overhung by an ancient tree that produces butterfly-like flowers and the famous Three Pagodas. Built when the region was a major Buddhist centre, Dali’s distinctively tall pagodas remain upright, despite wars and earthquakes. The largest of them - Qianxun tower dates back to 824 AD, some hundred years older than the two smaller octagonal pagodas behind, and is embellished with Buddhas made from local richly veined marble on each of its 16 levels. Day 5: Dali - Lijiang

Leaving Dali behind, you’ll travel north to UNESCO-listed Lijiang. The seat of the Naxi minority peoples, Lijiang lies north-west of Tibet in a fantastic mountain setting. The Naxi are a matriarchal society descended from a race of Tibetan nomads who settled the region before the 10th century. Overnight Lijiang Grand Hotel

Day 6: Lijiang

Today we visit Black Dragon Pool, and wander the labyrinthine streets of Dayan Old Town, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It possesses a network of ancient and narrow streets lined with small restaurants and eating houses in unique architectural styles, which are intersected by canals and a lively marketplace at Sifang. This evening we enjoy a Naxi music show. Overnight Lijiang Grand Hotel

Day 7: Lijiang

Enjoy an excursion to the stunning Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, its landscape includes one of the southernmost glaciers in the world. Access to the mountain is provided by a cable lift to Dragon Spruce Meadow, halfway to the glacier peak. We also visit Yufeng Si Monastery. Overnight Lijiang Grand Hotel

Day 8: Lijiang - Zhongdian (Shangri-La)

Travel to Shangri-La today, stopping enroute at the thrillingly named Tiger leaping gorge on the Yangtze River, where there is time to walk and take in the scenery. Some 16km long and up to 3000m deep, it is the world's deepest canyon. The gorge is so narrow at various points that legend has it a tiger once escaped pursuit by leaping across. Visiting the gorge, you’ll have a chance to walk a section and take in the dramatic, yet stark scenery. Overnight Shangri-La Maoyuan Hotel

Day 9: Zhongdian (Shangri-La)

Perched on a plateau at an elevation of 3,300m, Shangri-La (Zhongdian) is home to rugged scenery, remote temples and the start of the Tibetan world. The town is divided into old and new with store signs in Tibetan, Mandarin and English. Today our tour includes Shudu Lake, Bita Meadow then onto see a traditional Tibetan village and the incredible Songzanlin, the largest Mahayana Buddhist monastery in Yunnan. Day 10: Zhongdian (Shangri-La) - Xi'an

Take to the skies with a flight to Xi'an via Kunming. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight Wannian Hotel

Day 11: Xi'an

Today we take you to explore the marvellous Terracotta Warriors archaeological site. Some 7000 warriors stand battle-ready and have done so for the past 2,200 years. A visit to a clay workshop specialising in making replica figurines is also included. Overnight Wannian Hotel

Day 12: Xi'an - Shanghai

This morning we tour the lofty Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The complex of temples, pagoda’s and expansive gardens, constructed during the 7th century offered refuge and a store house for Chinese Buddhists to translate the very important Buddhist sutras from India. The fun starts now as we take a leisurely bicycle ride (solo or tandem) atop the well-preserved Xi’an city wall. At a minimum of 6 metres in width, 9 miles in length - with no steep inclines the wall offers a great vantage point for peeping down upon the city hubbub below. After we visit the Great Mosque, Muslim Quarter and enjoy some free time in the city center before boarding our overnight sleeper train (4 berth) destined for sizzling Shanghai.

Day 13: Shanghai

Today we tour many of the city’s top spots - Yu Gardens and Bazaar- Shanghai’s finest traditional garden, the Bund, Pudong and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Jade Buddha Temple and take a cruise along the Huangpu River. Overnight Magestic Plaza Hotel

Day 15: Shanghai

Your tour with us comes to an end today. You will be transferred to the airport in time for your departure flight. We truly hope you have had a great time, collecting many wonderful memories of our beautiful country.
