The Great Wall of China is a must see experience so today we have included a drive beyond Beijing to Badaling. Here with your expert guide you can walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Returning to Beijing in the afternoon we enjoy touring the Summer Palace. This vast complex is replete with lavishly decorated temples, halls and courts, reconstructed in 1902 at the whim of the extravagant Dowager Empress Cixi.
This morning, we tour the centre of Beijing, China's magnificent capital, including the massive Tiananmen Square and the sprawling Forbidden City. Boasting some 9999 rooms, the city within a city was once the sole preserve of the Chinese emperors. We conclude the days touring with a visit to the stunning Temple of Heaven and if you like a walk in the surrounding park land.
This morning say goodbye to your Beijing guide and transfer to the airport for the flight to Xian. Here, our rep will be waiting for you and transfer you to the hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore.
Today we have included for you the must see sight of Xian - The Terracotta Warrior archaeological site, where some 7,000 warriors stand in battle ready position. Remainder of the afternoon at leisure.
Consider independently exploring the Muslim Quarter or see the Grand Mosque before your noon flight to Lhasa. Upon arrival to Tibet you will drive (aprox 1.5 hours) to the fabled city of Lhasa. Once you reach Lhasa the remainder of the day is free for you to relax and acclimatise at ‘the roof of the world’.
We begin our exploration of this mystical city first heading to Lhasa’s most enduring image, the Potala Palace. However, it is the Jokhang Temple which will be the most enlightening stop of the day. The holiest shrine in Tibet, it houses a solid gold shrine of the enlightened Buddha and it is around which, in varying degrees of exertion, all Tibetans prostrate themselves at some point throughout their lifetime.
Our exploration of Lhasa continues today as we take the short journey to the 15th century Drepung Monastery. Formerly one of the central monasteries of Tibet it was torn asunder during the Cultural Revolution and continues to rebuild is walls and status today. Returning to Lhasa we will experience the Barkhor markets which surround the Jokhang temple and sell all things Tibetan.
Spend the morning at leisure before flying to Chongqing, the start point for our exciting Yangtze River cruise. Before boarding the cruise the we can stroll along Chongqing’s People’s Square, in the city centre. (YOUR CRUISE SHIP WILL BE EITHER PRESIDENT 7 OR 5)
Good morning from the River Yangtze! At 6340km in length, the Yangtze is the 3rd longest river in the world, neatly dividing China into north and south and winding its way through eight very different provinces. Enjoy the next two days on the cruise with the scheduled stops/tours and passing spectacular scenery along the way.
Disembarking from our cruise in Yichang at 11:30. We transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Arriving here, meet our local rep and transfer to your hotel.
