Great Wall

Day 1: Beijing

Huan ying, welcome to China and the start of your journey of a lifetime through the Orient! When you arrive at Beijing airport our local guide and driver await to transfer you to your hotel. The remainder of today is at your leisure.

Summer Palace

Day 2: Beijing

Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive to Badaling, to walk a section of the Great Wall. The Wall is impressive to say the least. Following the ridge of barren hills through northern China it stretches as far as the eye can see. Later we visit a cloisonne workshop demonstrating the unique Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces.

Forbidden City

Day 3: Beijing

This morning, we tour the centre of Beijing, China's magnificent capital, including the massive Tiananmen Square and the sprawling Forbidden City. Boasting some 9999 rooms, the city within a city was once the sole preserve of the Chinese emperors. Day 4: Beijing - Xi'an

We understand guided touring is not for all so today is a free day to explore the city sites. Alternately you may like to opt to enhance your holiday with a guided tour of the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven and Silk Alley markets. See enhance your holiday pages for prices. This evening we will transfer you to the train station for the sleeper train destined for Xian - Your guide will assist with check into the correct carriage and berth - Sit back and enjoy the journey.

Day 5: Xi'an

Your train arrives into Xian in the morning to the start of a new day and the gathering hustle and bustle. Our rep will be waiting for you and transfer you to the hotel for breakfast. Later we have included for you the must see sight of Xian - The Terracotta Warrior archaeological site, where some 7,000 warriors stand in battle ready position. After, we visit to a factory demonstrating how the warriors are crafted. Remainder of the evening at your leisure.

Day 6: Xi'an

This morning we visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and take a walk along Xi’an medieval City Wall. This afternoon is at your leisure to explore. This evening why not opt for a Tang Dynasty performance? Read the Enhance your holiday page for prices.

Day 7: Xi'an - Lhasa

Early morning you will be transferred to the station for the T222/T223 train to Lhasa (DEP:-06:18 - ARR:-16:35+1) Sit back and enjoy the journey.

Day 8: Lhasa

The train arrives this evening, our local guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 9: Lhasa

We begin our exploration of this mystical city first heading to Lhasa’s most enduring image, the Potala Palace. The Dalai Lama’s Summer palace, Norbulingka, is our next place of pilgrimage. However, it is the Jokhang Temple which will be the most enlightening stop of the day. The holiest shrine in Tibet, it houses a solid gold shrine of the enlightened Buddha and it is around which, in varying degrees of exertion, all Tibetans prostrate themselves at some point throughout their lifetime.

Day 10: Lhasa

Our exploration of Lhasa continues today as we take the short journey to the 15th century Drepung Monastery. Formerly one of the central monasteries of Tibet it was torn asunder during the Cultural Revolution and continues to rebuild is walls and status today. Just north of Lhasa is the Sera Monastery, still a working retreat 600 years after its foundation as a main teaching monastery and one of the three great Gelukpa ‘Universities’ once housing more than 5500 monks. Returning to Lhasa we will experience the Barkhor markets which surround the Jokhang temple and sell all things Tibetan.

Day 11: Lhasa

An early morning start as we drive out toward the Himalayas. From Lhasa, itself at 3500m, we travel over the Kamba-La pass and reach 4794m above sea level. As we journey along the winding road, weaving our way through the rocky mountains and valleys, in the far distance on a very clear day it may be possible to catch a glimpse of the High Himalayan Peaks of Everest and Lhotse. From the top of the pass we can look down on the deep azure waters of Yamdrok Lake, cradled by snow capped mountains before dropping down to the shores itself. We return to the city by the evening.

Day 12: Lhasa - Shanghai

Today you will be driven to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Arriving here, our local guide will drive you to your hotel.

Day 13: Shanghai

Day 14: Shanghai

Sadly your journey concludes, we will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
