Welcome to China and the start of your holiday! We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. After a chance to freshen up, we will take you on a sightseeing tour to theYu Garden and Jade Buddha Temple.
The mere mention of ‘Shanghai’ conjures up mystery, romance and general decadence. Pre–1949 cosmopolitan Shanghai was a magnet for seekers of wealth, idle colonialists, explorers and the dispossessed. A legacy of these heady times is Shanghai’s Bund where on and around this waterfront promenade are a series of grandiose pre-1949 buildings. Just across the Huangpu River is the new Shanghai, a high-tech development of gravity defying skyscrapers. Today tour many of the city’s top spots including the Bund, Pudong and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and a cruise along the Huangpu River.
We will transfer you to the airport for the flight to Lijiang. On arrival we will transfer you to the hotel. We then take you on a guided tour of Black Dragon Pool and Dayan Old Town.
Today enjoy an excursion to the stunning Jade Dragon Snow Mountain; its landscape includes one of the southernmost glaciers in the modern world. Shanzidou, the main peak of the mountain at 18,000 feet above sea level, looks like a gigantic dragon clad in white snow all year round. Access to the mountain is provided by a cable lift to Yunshan Terrace (by chairlift), halfway to the glacier peak. You will also see Baisha Mural and Baisha Village and Shuhe old town.
Today you discover Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia) on the way to Shangri La. Some 16km long and up to 3000m deep, it is the worlds deepest canyon. The gorge is so narrow at various points that legend has it a tiger once escaped pursuit by leaping across. visiting the gorge, you’ll have a chance to hike along a section of the stunning gorge and take in the dramatic, yet stark scenery. We also take you to Dukezong Old Town and on arrival into Shangri La we will check you into the hotel.
Today our expert guide will take you to see Shudu lake, Bita meadow then onto see a traditional Tibetan village and the incredible Song Zanglin Lamasery.
We will transfer you to the airport for the flight to Xi'an (via Kunming). On arrival we will check you into the hotel and then set off for guided sightseeing of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the medieval City Wall, where we enjoy a hired bike ride.
Today we take you to explore the marvellous Terracotta Warriors archaeological site. Some 7000 warriors stand battle-ready and have done so for the past 2,200 years. A visit to a clay workshop specialising in making replica figurines is also included. The remainder of the evening is at leisure or perhaps you'd like to opt for our Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show (please see Enhance Options page of the quote).
We transfer you to the airport for the flight to Beijing and on arrival we will transfer you to the hotel and check you in. We then take you to explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait), we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city.
Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive out of the city to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall that snakes for thousands of kilometres is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Continuing a short distance from Badaling, we visit the tombs of the Ming emperors. We also make a visit to a cloisonne workshop, where we’ll see firsthand the unique Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces.
