Great Wall

Day 2: Beijing

Welcome to China and the start of your holiday! Enjoy an arrival transfer to our hotel, where you sit back and relax after your long flight.

Forbidden City

Day 3: Beijing

Today we explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb is located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace, we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city. This afternoon is free or you have the opportunity to enhance your holiday and take an optional Hutongs of Beijing tour.

Day 4: Beijing

Today we drive out of the city to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! We visit a cloisonne workshop, where we’ll see firsthand the unique Chinese art of combining copper and enamel. Tonight, an opportunity to enhance your hoiday with the optional Acrobats in Action.

Summer Palace

Day 5: Beijing - Luoyang

We have a guided visit to the Silk Alley markets and the Summer Palace with its UNESCO-listed imperial gardens, located on Kunming Lake. This afternoon we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Luyang. Upon arrival we will pick you up from the airpor and transfer you to your hotel for the evening.

Day 6: Luoyang

Today we explore the UNESCO - listed 6th Century Longman Caves etched into the cliffs of the Yi River. The 1300 caves (grottoes) are adorned with 100,000 statues and images of Buddha and his disciples, carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty. Later we tour the White Horse Temple, the first Buddhist temple in China.

Day 7: Luoyang - Xi'an

This morning we visit Peony Square to watch ballroom dancing, tai chi and sword fighting. Boarding the morning train we travel to Xi’an and have the afternoon at leisure.

Day 8: Xi'an

Discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, the 2,200 year old Terracotta Warriors comprise more than 7,000 life-sized soldiers standing battle-ready in excavated pits under the cover of a modern protective hanger. Today, we visit the archaeological site of the Terracotta Warriors, Huanqing Hot Springs and a workshop where clay warrior replicas are made. Tonight enhance your holiday with the Tang Dynasty show optional.

Day 9: Xi'an - Shanghai

Today is a free day or you have the opportunity to enhance your holiday with the optional Ancient Xi'an. This afternoon we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival we will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel for the evening.

Day 10: Shanghai

We have guided sightseeing - highlights will be a visit to the Bund. The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road, is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. Onward to see the Jade Buddha Temple, the famous Yu Gardens and a trip to the Bazaar.

Day 11: Shanghai

Travelling west, we journey to Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. One of China’s most charming cities, it’s fame rests on it’s waterways, and canals that are dotted with traditional bridges, houses and gardens. A cruise on the Grand Canal exposes Suzhou’s beauty. Renown for it’s silk, we also visit a silk workshop before returning to Shanghai.

Day 12: Shanghai

We will transfer you to the airport for your departure flight.
