Welcome to the start of your OTG adventure through China. We will collect you and transfer you to the station for G18 15:00 – 19:55 express train to Beijing. Arriving into Beijing, our local team await to take you to the hotel.
Today you will set out to sightsee with our guide the nation's capital, starting with Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The Forbidden CIty - so called as it was only visited by people on Imperial business up until 1911 - is a vision in grandeur with yellow roofs, vermilion walls and the innermost sanctum of Beijing. You will walk through the city's many temples, grand halls and courtyards before visiting Chang’an Avenue and conclude the day with a rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing stopping off to see some of the courtyards of family homes.
Today you take a journey outside of the city to the most famous wall in the world - the Great Wall of China. Take a walk or maybe even a climb on some of the lesser visited parts of the wall - a much more fulfilling and intimate experience of the wall! Later on you can opt to see how they make traditional noodles and sample them afterwards. When you have walked enough of the wall - you return to Bejing.
Spend the morning at leisure before touring the Summer Palace. This vast complex is replete with lavishly decorated temples, halls and courts, reconstructed in 1902 at the whim of the extravagant Dowager Empress Cixi. We visit the famed Silk Alley markets and drive past the Beijing 2008 Olympic Stadium en route to the train station where we assist you to embark the sleeper train to Luoyang K1363 22:15 - 07:29+1
Today we explore the UNESCO - listed 6th Century Longman Caves etched into the cliffs of the Yi River. The 1300 caves (grottoes) are adorned with 100,000 statues and images of Buddha and his disciples, carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty. Later on we tour the White Horse Temple, the first Buddhist temple in China.
Early morning we visit the Peony Square to watch ballroom dancing, tai chi and sword fighting. After some free time we board the new high speed train to Xi'an (journey time approximately 2 hours). In Xi'an after your arrival transfer, the fun starts now as we take a leisurely bicycle ride (solo or tandem) atop the well-preserved Xi’an city wall. At a minimum of 6 metres in width, 9 miles in length - with no steep inclines the wall offers a great vantage point for peeping down upon the city hubbub below.
Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Warriors are reputed to be the greatest discovery of the 20th century - 7,000 life-sized clay soldiers stand ready for battle. Today you visit with our expert guide, the archaeological site and the workshop where the replica warriors are crafted.
First up this morning, we tour the lofty Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The complex of temples, pagoda’s and expansive gardens, constructed during the 7th century offered refuge and a store house for Chinese Buddhists to translate the very important Buddhist sutras from India.
