Lantau Buddha

Day 1: Hong Kong - Guilin

Make your way to the airport this morning in time for the flight to Guilin. Arriving here, meet our guide and then pay a visit to The Reed Flute Cave Within the cave there are enchanting stalagmites, stone pillars, stele, stone curtains and stone flowers. Then we continue on to Elephant Trunk Hill Located at the confluence of the Taohua (Peach Blossom) River and the Li River, this Hill is too famous to be missed.

Day 2: Guilin - Yangshuo

Today you will enjoy a whole day Li River cruise. This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full days excursion. The 90km Li River cruise is the centerpiece of any trip to northeastern Guangxi Province. Gorgeous Karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies, school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. You will visit the local market and West Street once you arrive in Yangshuo, and we have arranged for you to attend the Impression Liusanjie show this evening.

Day 3: Yangshuo

(Bikes can be easily rented locally, our guide will assist you in doing so) Today hop on your bicycles, and enjoy a day cycling in the fantastic rural surroundings of the region. We will be sure to take you to a spot where you can witness the traditional form of fishing with cormorant birds.

Day 4: Yangshuo - Guilin

This morning we drive to Longsheng. Here, we explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone! Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Where there is soil a terrace has been made! Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, we climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below. Upon concluding our tour of the area we make our way to Guilin.

Day 5: Guilin - Chengdu

This morning we fly to Chengdu. After checking into your hotel we will travel about 10km north to the Giant panda breeding Research Base where you will catch a glimpse of some of the 40 Pandas that reside here. (Half day volunteering(Yuan 700 per person),hold a panda(Yuan 2000 per person) please let us know your preference. Back in the city we enjoy some time to spend at the Tea house - River pavilion, then drop you off at your hotel.

Day 6: Chengdu - Emei Shan

Driving to Leshan your morning is spent exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Dafo (Great Buddha), which is carved into the red sandstone face of Lingyun Hill overlooking the treacherous confluence of the Min, Qingyi and Dadu rivers below it. It is standing at Dafo's huge 8m feet that you can really appreciate the scale of one of the world's largest Buddhas. Talking numbers, his ears droop 7m, his shoulders span 28m and his nose measures a whopping 5.6m! We continue the journey to Emaishan and check into your hotel.

Day 7: Emei Shan

Spend the entire with our expert guide to explore the area, we travel by cable car to the top of Mt Emei to tour the magnificent Wannian temple. The oldest structure on the mountain, its contents are stunning: three thousand tiny iron Buddhas surround a life sized enamelled bronze sculpture of Bodhisattva Puxian (the protector of the mountain) riding a gilt lotus flower astride his great six tusked white elephant. Weighing over 62 tonnes and standing over 7 metres in height the masterpiece had to be bought to the mountain top in pieces.

Day 8: Emei Shan - Xi'an

Today is a simple matter of returning to Chengdu city in time to catch the sleeper train to Xi'an.

Day 9: Xi'an

Arrive Xi’an at 8 am, we will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Before visiting the Terracotta Warrior archaeological site today, we visit a workshop where we see the process used to create the terracotta figurines. In battle formation, the Terracotta Warriors are one of China’s most awesome sights. This evening we will take you to see a traditional Tang Dynasty performance which is accompanied with a tasty dumpling feast.

Day 10: Xi'an - Beijing

Today, we visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Muslim Quarter. Encircling the old city is Xi’an’s medieval City Wall, where we enjoy a hired bike ride. Later on we transfer you to the train station for the overnight train to Beijing.

Day 11: Beijing

On arrival we will transfer you to your hotel. We explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait), we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city, then take to rickshaws for a journey through the Hutongs to see the traditional way of life maintained, in a fast modernizing city. Tonight, we attend a Chinese acrobatic performance.

Day 12: Beijing

Today we drive beyond Beijing to Badaling to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Built in the Ming Dynasty, a 6m wide pathway makes a formidable defense, following the highest contours of a steep range of hills. We return to Beijing and explore the Emperor's Summer Palace, set on Kunming Lake.

Day 13: Beijing

Our day starts with a visit to the Temple of Heaven, which is surrounded by parkland where the locals practice Tai Chi in the morning and you will too, with an interactive lesson. Later, explore Jingshan Park which is a beautiful royal landscape garden, covering an area of 230,000 square meters. We conclude our day with a drive around to see the incredible Olympic sites, such as the bird nest stadium and aquatic centre.
