Day 1: Nanjing - Yangtze & Three Gorges

This morning we will collect you and transfer with your train tickets to the station to catch the D3073 train to Yichang DEP:-09:00 ARR:-14:57 - Arriving here, our local rep will take for a guided tour of the city before embarking your Yangtze Cruise NAMED THE Victoria Grace after dinner.

Day 2: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Good morning from the River Yangtze! At 6340km in length, the Yangtze is the 3rd longest river in the world, neatly dividing China into north and south and wending its way through eight very different provinces. The Gorges are a breathtaking sight! Enjoy sailing today through Xiling Gorge east and west sections. Today's major activity is a shore excursion to the magnificent Three Gorges Dam, a world-famous engineering marvel.

Day 3: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Enjoy sailing through Wu Gorge, today's highlight is to disembark the ship and board smaller vessels to navigate the Lesser Three Gorges and the Shennong Stream.

Day 4: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Enjoy further sailing today. Highlight of the day - Take a shore excursion to Fengdu Ghost City to experience the profound ghost culture of China with temple and shrines dedicated to underworld demons and gods.

Day 5: Yangtze & Three Gorges - Chengdu

The cruise arrives into Chongqing at around 08:00 am. After, off to the station for the D5105 train to Chengdu. DEP:-09:30 ARR:-11:44. Arriving here, our local rep will transfer you to your hotel.

Day 6: Chengdu

An hour’s drive to the north west leads you to the ancient city of Dujiangyan. It was here, in 256 BC that provincial governer Li Bing set up the Dujiangyan Irrigation Scheme. The three part engineering project using a central dam and artificial islands to split the Min River into an inner flow for irrigation and an outer channel for flood control. A spillway directed and regulated the water while an opening carved through the hillside controlled to flow rate. The project was maintained until 2006 when a new dam was created 9km upstream. Tour the dam site, view the Anlan Suspension Bridge and the Dragon Taming Temple.

Day 7: Chengdu

Today we tour Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding a short drive out of town. Afterwards, visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, the Tomb of Wang Jian and Jinli Lu street - part of the old city where open air theatre and Sichuan Opera are performed in the evening.

Day 8: Chengdu - Emei Shan

Today our morning is spent exploring the the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Dafo (Great Buddha), which is carved into the red sandstone face of Lingyun Hill overlooking the treacherous confluence of the Min, Qingyi and Dadu rivers below it. Driving onward take in the views from Emei Shan (Mt Emei) designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its incredible natural beauty and historical Buddhist sites. Arriving at Baoguo, located at the foot of the Mountain, we visit the Temple of Baoguo.

Day 9: Emei Shan

This morning we travel by cable car to the top of Mt Emei to tour the magnificent Wannian temple. The oldest structure on the mountain, its contents are stunning: three thousand tiny iron Buddhas surround a life sized enamelled bronze sculpture of Bodhisattva Puxian (the protector of the mountain) riding a gilt lotus flower astride his great six tusked white elephant. Weighing over 62 tonnes and standing over 7 metres in height the masterpiece had to be brought to the mountaintop in pieces. Returning to Chengdu in the afternoon we head straight to the airport for your flight back to Nanjing - End of our arrangments.
