Day 1: Shanghai

Welcome to China and the start of your holiday! Enjoy an arrival transfer to our hotel, where you can sit back and relax after your long flight.

Day 2: Shanghai

Today starts off after breakfast for a full day's guided excursion, highlights will be a visit to the Bund The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road, is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. Onward to see the Jade Buddha Temple, the famous Yu Gardens and a trip to the Bazaar.

Day 3: Shanghai - Luoyang

A free day until we transfer you to the train station for the overnight train to Luoyang.

Day 4: Luoyang

Arrive Luoyang and transfer to our hotel. Later we explore the UNESCO World Heritage listed Longman Caves. Carved into the cliffs along the Yi River, there are 1300 caves (grottoes). Creating temples within the caves they then sculpted and decorated the interior with 100,000 statues and images of Buddha and his disciples. Later this afternoon we tour the stunning White Horse Temple, the first Buddhist temple in China.

Day 5: Luoyang - Dengfeng

Early this morning we walk to Peony Square to watch or partake in a little exercise. Hundreds of local people enjoy their daily exercise by practising ballroom dancing, performing tai chi, sword fighting and play sports like badminton and hacky sack in the early hours of the morning. Travelling on today we take the train to Shaolin, with an afternoon visit to Shaolin Temple - built by the Emperor Hsiao-Wen in AD 477, as well as a Kung Fu Lesson.

Day 6: Dengfeng - Xi'an

We will transfer you through to Xi'an today and check you into the hotel. Rest of the day is free.

Day 7: Xi'an

We visit Huaqing Hot Springs, a scenic spot in the shadow of Li Mountain. Before visiting the Terracotta Warrior archaeological site, we visit a workshop where we see the process used to create the terracotta figurines. In battle formation, the Terracotta Warriors are one of China’s most awesome sights.

Day 8: Xi'an

Today, we visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Muslim Quarter. Encircling the old city is Xi’an’s medieval City Wall, where we enjoy a hired bike ride. Enjoy the remainder of today as free time.

Day 9: Xi'an - Pingyao

Today we travel to Pingyao.

Day 10: Pingyao - Beijing

On arrival into Pingyao we are met by our guide. Today's site-seeing in Pingyao will be to Shuangling Temple and Zhengguo Temple. We will take the overnight train to Beijing.

Forbidden City

Day 11: Beijing

We will pick you up from the train station and check you into the hotel. We explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait), we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city.

Great Wall

Day 12: Beijing

Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive out of the city to Mutianyu where we walk a section of the Great Wall with your guide. Depending on your fitness level can be as rigorous or as easy as like.

Temple of Heaven

Day 13: Beijing

Today we visit the Temple of Heaven where we can enjoy some time perhaps kite flying and continue onto Summer Palace, set on Kunming Lake, to view the lavishly decorated temples, halls and courts, reconstructed in 1902. At Silk Alley, there’s a chance to indulge in a little retail therapy.

Day 14: Beijing

We will transfer you to the airport in time for your departure flight.
