Shenzhen is located in the southern Guangdong Province on the Hong Kong border. Shenzhen was just a small fishing village called Baoan County until in 1979 it was renamed Shenzhen City when the Special Economic Zone was built. Today it is one of China's wealthiest and most commercially successful cities. Many of the surrounding hills have been taken over by the expanding population of the city, now experiencing an economic boom. The world’s ninth tallest building is in Shenzhen and the Shun Hing building is the world’s tallest steel building. It has excellent theme parks, as well as great shopping, dining & nightlife.
The Window on the World theme park has over 100 replicas of some of the most recognised tourist attractions in the world, from the Eiffel Tower and the Pyramids to the Taj Mahal and Niagara Falls. Splendid China park has miniature reproductions of China’s top tourist spots, as well as depicting the culture, history and architecture of China. At Minsk World you can see the flight deck of the Soviet aircraft carrier Minsk, as well as the hanger deck and many exhibits of the life that would have been had on the carrier.
Shenzhen is located close to the Tropic of Cancer and as a result Shenzhen has a good year-round climate with mild winters and a tropical summer. Summer experiences the most rainfall and highest temperatures, usually not reaching more than 35 degrees Celsius.
