Welcome to Beijing and the start of your holiday! Enjoy an arrival transfer to our hotel, where you sit back and relax after your long flight.
This morning, We explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait), we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city. Tonight, we enjoy a Welcome Dinner of Peking Duck at a city restaurant.
Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive out of the city to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall that snakes for thousands of kilometres is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Continuing a short distance from Badaling, we visit the tombs of the Ming emperors. We also make a visit to a cloisonne workshop, where we’ll see firsthand the unique Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces.
Today, we visit Silk Alley markets and the beautiful Summer Palace. Tonight, we travel to Beijing rail station for our journey to Datong.
Welcome to Datong, we will meet you at the train for your 05:10 am arrival. After hotel check-in and breakfast we head out to explore the Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple, The Nine Dragon Wall and The Shanhua Temple. This evening is free for you to relax.
After breakfast today we head out to visit the peculiar wood-structured Hanging Monastery, built on the cliff at the foot of Mt. Hengshan it gives a breath-taking view of Chinese architecture. Datong has been known as the 'City of Pagodas'. The most elaborate would have to be the Wooden Pagoda in Ying County. This pagoda is over 900 years old and is attractive for its exquisite design and delicate appearance. We will later transfer to Taiyuan.
This morning enjoy a private transfer to Pingyao which boasts the famous Pingyao Old City included in the United Nations World Cultural Heritage in 1997. From the top of the grand City Wall, you have a bird's-eye view of the Old City, a complete city built almost a thousand years ago. We also visit the Ancient Ming and Qing Street constructed in the original architectural style. Later this evening we will take you to the train station for the overnight sleeper train to Xian.
Arrive Xi’an at 8 am, we will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. We visit Huaqing Hot Springs, a scenic spot in the shadow of Li Mountain. Before visiting the Terracotta Warrior archaeological site, we visit a workshop where we see the process used to create the terracotta figurines. In battle formation, the Terracotta Warriors are one of China’s most awesome sights.
Today, we visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Muslim Quarter. Encircling the old city is Xi’an’s medieval City Wall, we will also visit the Muslim market. Later today you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
Once known for its decadent magnetism that attracted fortune-seekers and adventurers, Shanghai looks like a European city in a Chinese setting. A stroll along the famous Shanghai Bund confirms this. Today, we explore the Jade Buddha Temple, charming Yuyuan Gardens, and the Old City where we can opt to shop on Nanjing Road.
Today you will visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and will explore the Shanghai Museum.
Travelling west, we journey to Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. One of China’s most charming cities, it’s fame rests on it’s waterways, and canals that are dotted with traditional bridges, houses and gardens. A cruise on the Grand Canal exposes Suzhou’s beauty. Renown for it’s silk, we also visit a silk workshop before returning to Shanghai.
Today you fly to Guilin. After check in, your are off to visit The Reed Flute Cave; the cave within the cave. There are enchanting stalagmites, stone pillars, stele, stone curtains and stone flowers. Then we continue on to Elephant Trunk Hill Located at the confluence of the Taohua (Peach Blossom) River and the Li River, this Hill is too famous to be missed.
This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full days excursion.. The 90 Km Li River cruise is the centerpiece of any trip to northeastern Guangxi Province. Gorgeous Karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies, school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. After passing many world renown sights you arrive in to Yangshuo where you can explore.
This morning we will venture to Longsheng for a full days touring of the highlights of this area which will include, The Hot Springs and National Forest Park, Dragons Backbone rice terraces, Longsheng town and surrounding villages, returning late to Guilin.
You have this morning at leisure before your overnight train to Guangzhou.
On arrival you will be met and transfered to the the train to Hong Kong. You have the rest of the day at leisure in Hong Kong.
Today we bid you farewell with a departure transfer to the Airport. Based on the magical places you have visited in China I am sure you will have many special memories to ponder on your long flight home.
