Great Wall

Day 1: Beijing

Huan ying ni lai Zhongguo! That's 'Welcome to China' in Mandarin. Our representative will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall, ready to transfer you to your hotel in Beijing. Remainder of the day is free for you to relax after your flight.

Forbidden City

Day 2: Beijing

This morning we explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao's tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Enjoy a guided tour of the vast Forbidden City, a city within a city that was once the seat of the emperors. Later take an exciting rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing, weaving through old back lanes and traditional courtyards for a snapshot of an ancient way of life. Later this evening enjoy the capital's specialty - Peking Duck (paid for locally).

Day 3: Beijing

Don some comfortable shoes as today you get the chance to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Zig zagging some 6000km, ducking and weaving through mountain peaks and lush terrain, the Great Wall is one of those 'must-do experiences'. Our visit is to the Mutianyu section of the Wall, a quieter 2.5km stretch with 22 watchtowers and lush carpets of greenery on either side of the wall.

Day 4: Beijing

This morning enjoy a guided visit to the Summer Palace. Set on beautiful Kunming Lake, the palace grounds containing various temples, gardens, pavilions, bridges and gate-towers, are a marvel of landscaping. The remainder of the day is at leisure in Beijing.

Day 5: Beijing - Xi'an

Departing Beijing this morning we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Xi'an. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel where the remainder of the day can be spent at leisure or independently exploring the city.

Day 6: Xi'an

Today discover the marvellous Terracotta Warriors archaeological site. Some 7,000 warriors stand battle-ready and have done so for the past 2,200 years. Our sightseeing of Xi'an continues with a casual bicycle ride on top of the nine mile city wall with views over the lively city below. We'll also visit the Bell and Drum Towers.

Day 7: Xi'an - Chengdu

Today we transfer you to the airport in time for your flight to Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan province. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 8: Chengdu

This morning we tour the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a short drive out of town. Visiting the Panda nursery is a must as here you can get relatively close to the centre’s infant population. Afterwards, visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, the Tomb of Wang Jian and Jinli Lu street - part of the old city where open air theatre and Sichuan Opera are performed in the evening.

Day 9: Chengdu - Lijiang

Enjoy a second visit to the panda reserve this morning before transferring to the airport for your flight to Lijiang. Upon arrival into Lijiang transfer to your hotel for an evening at leisure.

Day 10: Lijiang - Guilin

With a history spanning 1,300 years, Lijiang possesses rich architecture in what is coined its ‘Old Town’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a morning independently exploring the maze of alleyways with a great selection of eating houses in unique architectural styles. This afternoon you'll fly to Guilin (via Kunming). Arriving into Guilin we'll transfer you to your hotel for the night.

Day 11: Guilin

This morning pay a visit to The Reed Flute Cave. Within the cave there are enchanting stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains and stone flowers. Continue on to Elephant Trunk Hill. Located at the confluence of the Taohua (Peach Blossom) River and the Li River, this hill is too famous to be missed.

Day 12: Guilin - Yangshuo

This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full day's excursion. The 90km Li River cruise is the highlight of any trip to northeastern Guangxi province. Gorgeous karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies and school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. After passing many world-renowned sights such as Elephant Trunk Hill and Pagoda, arrive in to Yangshuo. Enjoy a visit to West Street before transferring to your hotel.

Day 13: Yangshuo - Guilin

This morning drive to Longsheng to explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone. Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon-like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below. Return to Guilin later this evening.

Day 14: Guilin - Yangtze & Three Gorges

Departing Sichuan this morning our flight brings us to Chongqing where you'll visit People's Square before embarking on your fabulous Yangtze River cruise. Settle in to your cabin for the night.

Day 15: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Day 2 on board the Yangtze River cruise. Enjoy a leisurely morning soaking up the scenery of the Yangtze. In the afternoon there's the option of a shore excursion to Fengdu (Ghost City) and the impressive wooden Shibaozhai pavilion. Later in the evening back on board join the Captain's Welcome Dinner.

Day 16: Yangtze & Three Gorges

During day 3 on board the Yangtze River cruise you will pass the Qutang gorge, the shortest, narrowest, yet most impressive, of the Three Gorges, and later the incredibly beautiful Wu gorge. Disembark for an excursion to Shennong stream by open sampan. Returning to the cruise ship continue through Xiling gorge, the longest of the three.

Day 17: Yangtze & Three Gorges - Sanya

Your final day on board the Yangtze cruise brings the opportunity to visit the Three Gorges Dam, the grandest hydroelectric project in the world. After lunch and arrival into Yichang, disembark from the cruise ship and take the high speed train to Wuhan for your flight to the tropical island of Hainan.

Day 18: Sanya

This morning enjoy a guided visit to the Nanshan Temple, the biggest Buddhist preaching site established since the founding of the People's Republic of China. We'll also see the sea-based Guanyin of the South Sea Statue, a 108-metre statue of the bodhisattva Guanyin. The day continues with the Nanshan Dongtian Tourism Park, located at the southwest corner of Mt. Nanshan. It's a scenic spot with the option to see more of the area from a cable-car.

Day 19: Sanya

Today enjoy a visit to the Li ﹠ Miao Minority Nationality village where you can enjoy folk dancing. We'll also visit the Luhuitou Park, a hill-top park with wonderful views of Sanya city.

Day 20: Sanya

The Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Tourism Zone covers an area of 1,506 hectares and boasts a beautiful tropical forest landscape home to tropical semi-deciduous forests. The natural environment attracts more than 100 kinds of birds and 20 kinds of butterflies.

Day 21: Sanya

Day at leisure. Later this evening enjoy an evening cruise around the west of the island.

Day 22: Sanya - Shanghai

Today we'll be transferring you to the airport for your onward flights. For John and Julie it's a flight to Hong Kong for their onward departure flight back to the UK. For the remaining two couples it's a flight to Shanghai where upon arrival you'll be transferred to your hotel.

Day 23: Shanghai

This morning take a high speed train journey to ancient Suzhou. A sort of oriental Venice, ancient Suzhou is interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways which feed a series of classical gardens laid out here since the Song dynasty a thousand years ago. Suzhou sits very close to the Grand Canal and today enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal as well as a tour of the Humble Administrator’s Garden and a visit to a silk workshop before returning to Shanghai.

Day 24: Shanghai

Focus your eyes on spectacular Shanghai. Perhaps China’s most modern city, its amazing Pudong skyline is stunning. After breakfast at your hotel, take a tour of the many city sights including the Yuyuan Gardens, the Jade Buddha Temple and The Bund with a cruise on the Huangpu River.

Day 25: Shanghai

Today marks the end of your adventure with On the Go Tours. After breakfast and hotel check out we'll transfer you to the airport for your onward departure flight.
