Great Wall

Day 1: Beijing

Huan ying, welcome to China and the start of your holiday! Airport arrival transfer and hotel check in.

Day 2: Beijing

Today, we drive beyond Beijing to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the famous Great Wall, built during the Ming Dynasty. Later we visit a cloisonne workshop demonstrating the ancient Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces. Enjoy a visit to the summer palace where we explore the lavishly decorated temples, halls and courts, reconstructed in 1902 at the whim of the extravagant Dowager Empress Cixi.

Forbidden City

Day 3: Beijing - Luoyang

This morning, we embark on a guided sightseeing tour of the nation’s capital. Tienanmen Square is essentially the heart of Beijing. Heading back a few centuries we step into the Forbidden City, the walled city of the former Chinese emperors. Enjoy a visit to the Temple of heaven. Later this evening we will transfer you to the railway station for the overnight train to Luoyang.

Day 4: Luoyang

Arrive Luoyang and you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later enjoy a guided tour to Longmen Cave and White Horse Temple.

Day 5: Luoyang - Xi'an

This morning enjoy a day tour to the Shaolin Temple. Later this afternoon we will transfer you to the railway station for the train to Xian. Train number G2012, departs at 1750 and arrives at 1928. Arrive Xian and transfer to your hotel.

Day 6: Xi'an

Xi’an in Shaanxi Province is perhaps most famous for the discovery of Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Warriors. The 2,200 year old warriors comprise more than 7,000 life-sized soldiers which stand battle-ready in excavated pits. We tour the site and a workshop where replicas are crafted. Later enjoy a visit to the Huaqing Hot Springs.

Day 7: Xi'an

Today, we visit the Wild Goose Pagoda and the Muslim Quarter. Encircling the old city is Xi’an’s medieval City Wall. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.

Day 8: Xi'an - Lhasa

This morning we will transfer you to the Airport for your flight to Lhasa. Arrive Lhasa and you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.

Day 9: Lhasa

Full day guided tour to Potala Palace, Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple. We begin our exploration of this mystical city first heading to Lhasa’s most enduring image, the Potala Palace. This being the winter home of the Dalai Lamas we will then venture on to visit the Dalai Lama’s Summer palace However, it is the Jokhang Temple which will be the most enlightening stop of the day being the holiest shrine in Tibet.

Day 10: Lhasa

Full day guided tour to Grepeng Monastery and Sera Monstery.

Day 11: Lhasa - Ya'an

This morning we will transfer you to the Airport for your flight to Chengdu. Arrive Chengdu and you will be met and transferred to the Ya'an Panda Centre. Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre has been created and imitates the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding.

Day 12: Ya'an - Chengdu

Today enjoy a full day guided tour in Ya'an. Later this afternoon we will transfer you back to Chengdu and to your hotel for the night.

Day 13: Chengdu - Yangtze & Three Gorges

This morning transfer to the railway station for the morning train to Chongqing, the start point for our exciting Yangtze River cruise. Before boarding the cruise after dinner enjoy a city tour of Chongqing including a stroll along Chongqing’s People’s Square in the city centre.

Day 14: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Good morning from the River Yangtze! At 6340km in length, the Yangtze is the 3rd longest river in the world, neatly dividing China into north and south and wending its way through eight very different provinces. The Gorges are a breathtaking sight! The first gorge we pass, Qutangxia Gorge is the shortest and narrowest yet the most impressive.

Day 15: Yangtze & Three Gorges

During our cruise, we’ll also sail through the new ship locks of the impressive Three Gorges Dam construction. Shore excursions to mythical Fengdu - ‘Ghost City’ and Shennong stream, with its unique scenery and four natural gorges. Drift serenely along the stream in open ‘pea pod boats’, looking out upon lush greenery and ancient villages of the Tujia people.

Day 16: Yangtze & Three Gorges - Shanghai

Disembarking from our cruise after lunch in Yichang at 1300 hours we will transfer you to the Airport for your flight to Shanghai. Arrive Shanghai and you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 17: Shanghai

Today enjoy a full day guided tour of Shanghai with a visit to the TV Tower, Bund, Yu Garden and the old city.

Day 18: Shanghai

Farewell China! Today we will transfer you to the airport in time for your departure flight.
