Today, we drive beyond Beijing to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the famous Great Wall, built during the Ming Dynasty. Later we visit a cloisonne workshop demonstrating the ancient Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces. Enjoy a visit to the summer palace where we explore the lavishly decorated temples, halls and courts, reconstructed in 1902 at the whim of the extravagant Dowager Empress Cixi.
This morning, we embark on a guided sightseeing tour of the nation’s capital. Tienanmen Square is essentially the heart of Beijing. Heading back a few centuries we step into the Forbidden City, the walled city of the former Chinese emperors. Enjoy a visit to the Temple of heaven. Later this evening we will transfer you to the railway station for the overnight train to Xian.
Xi’an in Shaanxi Province is perhaps most famous for the discovery of Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Warriors. The 2,200 year old warriors comprise more than 7,000 life-sized soldiers which stand battle-ready in excavated pits. We tour the site and a workshop where replicas are crafted. Later enjoy a visit to the Huaqing Hot Springs.
Today, we visit the Wild Goose Pagoda and the Muslim Quarter. Encircling the old city is Xi’an’s medieval City Wall. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.
This morning we will transfer you to the Airport for your flight to Lhasa. Arrive Lhasa and you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.
Full day guided tour to Potala Palace, Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple. We begin our exploration of this mystical city first heading to Lhasa’s most enduring image, the Potala Palace. This being the winter home of the Dalai Lamas we will then venture on to visit the Dalai Lama’s Summer palace However, it is the Jokhang Temple which will be the most enlightening stop of the day being the holiest shrine in Tibet.
Our exploration of Lhasa continues today as we take the short journey to the 15th century Drepung Monastery. Formerly one of the central monasteries of Tibet it was torn asunder during the Cultural Revolution and continues to rebuild is walls and status today. Just north of Lhasa is the Sera Monastery, still a working retreat 600 years after its foundation as a main teaching monastery and one of the three great Gelukpa ‘Universities’ once housing more than 5500 monks. Returning to Lhasa we will experience the Barkhor markets which surround the Jokhang temple and sell all things Tibetan.
This morning we will transfer you to the Airport for your flight to Chengdu. Arrive Chengdu and you will be met and transferred to the Ya'an Panda Centre. Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre has been created and imitates the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding.
Today enjoy a full day guided tour in Ya'an. Later this afternoon we will transfer you to Chengdu and to your hotel for the night.
This morning we will transfer you to the airport where you will get your flight to Guilin. On arrival in Guilin we will transfer you to your hotel. This afternoon we will check out the Reed Flute Caves and Elephant trunk hill before a free evening.
Today you will enjoy a whole day Li River cruise. This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full days excursion. The 90km Li River cruise is the centerpiece of any trip to northeastern Guangxi Province. Gorgeous Karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies, school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. You will visit the local market and West Street once you arrive in Yangshuo.
Enjoy a morning cycling tour and explore the local markets and village. Streets in Yangshuo are well kept in the original style, presenting the simple and primitive atmosphere of the ancient town. West Street is the most exciting one that locals call the 'Global Village'. We have lunch in the village before our transfer back to Guilin. Tonight we will fly you to Shanghai. On arrival in Shanghai we will transfer you to the hotel.
Today starts off after breakfast for a full days excursion, highlights will be a visit to the Bund The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road, is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. Onward to see the Jade Buddha Temple, the famous Yu Gardens and a trip to the Bazaar.
