Today we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Guilin. Renowned for it’s striking, if bizarre scenery - vast areas of karst limestone outcrops that rise up from flat rice paddy fields, Guilin is often the subject of Chinese painting. Upon arrival we will pick you up and take you on a tour of area including a visit to watch the artificial waterfall hotel and past some of the bridges. Overnight Bravo Hotel Guilin.
This morning we drive to Longsheng. Here, we explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone! Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Where there is soil a terrace has been made! Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, we climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below. This morning we take a river cruise along the River Li including a delicious lunch. In the afternoon take a visit to West street, the oldest street in Yangshuo - home to a vast array of craft and calligraphy shops, cafes, restaurants and Kung Fu academies. Enroute back to Guilin airport we visit the Reed Flute Cave which offers the chance to walk inside a gargantuan and deep limestone cave that features innumerable stalactites, stalagmites and rocky outcrops. We also visit the Bear and Tiger mountain Village, where there is the potential to see hundreds of black bears and tigers! Today, we tour the archaeological site of the Terracotta Warriors. We also visit the city symbol, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Xi’an’s medieval City Wall, which dates from the Ming dynasty and also visit the local Muslim Quarter. An early start this morning as you are driven to Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Centre in Zhouzhi County. Here you will have the opportunity to wander around and see the animals. Of course the giant pandas are what everyone wants to see but sometimes this is not possible as when they sleep they like to do this away from prying eyes. However there are lots of other wonderful animals to see like black bears, golden monkeys, leopards and giant salimanders. Birds also are here in abundance so look out for crested ibis, vultures and owls. Once we’ve finished at the Centre we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Beijing. Today, set out to sightsee the nation’s capital. Tiananmen Square is a square for the public and also home of the mausoleum of Chairman Mao Tse-tung, the Communist father of the Communist People’s Republic and the striking Monument to the People’s Heroes. Across the way is the Forbidden City. A vision in grandeur with it’s imperial yellow roofs and vermilion walls, the Forbidden City, once forbidden to all those except on imperial business until 1911, when the last emperor, Puyi, was turfed off his throne. Built between 1406 and 1420, it served as the imperial palace for the Ming and Qing dynasties. Enjoy a guided walk through the city’s many temples, grand halls and courtyards. Today, travel beyond Beijing to Badaling, where you can walk (almost climb on some sections) on the Great Wall. Following a ridge of barren hills through northern China, it stretches as far as the eye can see - at least 6,700 kms! Continuing on, a visit is made to the Temple of Heaven.
