Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive out of the city to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall that snakes for thousands of kilometres is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Continuing a short distance from Badaling, we visit the tombs of the Ming emperors. We also make a visit to a cloisonne workshop, where we’ll see firsthand the unique Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces. Overnight Beijing.
This morning, We explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait), we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city. Tonight, we enjoy a Welcome Dinner of Peking Duck at a city restaurant.
Free morning, opt for a walk in the local street market located near our hotel. There are a few unusual breakfast delicacies on offer! Later we visit the Emperor's Summer Palace, set on Kunming Lake and the Silk Alley Markets. A full day of travelling as you are transferred to the airport in time for your flight to Jiuzhaigou via Chengdu. Upon arrival you will be met by our local representatives then drive to Huanglong Valley to see the Huanglong Drop a fall of over 400meters. Continuing to your hotel and your overnight. Enjoy a full day a full day to explore the Jiuzhaigou Village, Seven of the nine Tibetan villages are still populated today. Returning to your hotel this evening. Overnight Jiuzhaigou.
Today fly to Chengdu. This afternoon visit Jinli Old Street the most famous place for baldachin - a rich, ornate cloth, and Wenshu Temple is the best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu. Overnight Chengdu.
Today we tour Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding a short drive out of town. China’s Giant Pandas are considered the most endangered mammal on the planet. Due to a loss of habitat in the Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu Provinces it is estimated that there are less than 1500 giant pandas remaining in the wild - 80% of which are located in Sichuan Provence. This morning we drive to Longsheng. Here, we explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone! Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Where there is soil a terrace has been made! Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, we climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below. Return to Guilin for your overnight. Overnight Guilin.
Today you will enjoy a whole day Li River cruise. This morning your Li River cruise departs from downtown Guilin for a full days excursion. The 90km Li River cruise is the centerpiece of any trip to northeastern Guangxi Province. Gorgeous Karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the limpid river under the blue sky. Bear witness to rural China as peasants reap rice paddies, school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. You will visit the local market and West Street once you arrive in Yangshuo.
