Welcome to China and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours! Upon arrival at the international airport in Beijing we'll be there to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel where the remainder of the day can be spent relaxing after your flight.
This morning we explore the heart of Beijing, China's pulsating capital, including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb lies and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city centre is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait), we enjoy a guided tour of this old city within a city. Later we take an exciting rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing, weaving through old back lanes, traditional courtyards and compact houses, gaining a fascinating snapshot of the city’s traditional way of life.
Don some comfortable shoes as today you get the chance to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Zig zagging some 6000km, ducking and weaving through mountain peaks and lush terrain, the Great Wall is one of those 'must-do experiences'.
This morning we depart Beijing and transfer to the airport for your flight to Guilin. Upon arrival into Guilin we'll visit Elephant Trunk Hill, so called for the rock's resemblance to an elephant drinking from the river. We'll also visit the gargantuan Reed Flute Cave, a natural limestone cave lit by multicoloured lights.
Transfer to Yangshuo this morning and enjoy a 2 hour rafting cruise along the calm clean waters of Yu Long River. As your captain punts (propels forward by pushing against the river bed with a long pole) the flat bottom boat along the shallow waters, endless photo opportunities arise.
Day at leisure. Choose to hike, hire a bicycle or motorbike and head off on one of the many mountain trails or stop to watch the local fishermen use their trained cormorants to catch fish - a centuries old tradition, though somewhat commercialised these days. Time can also be spent exploring West Street. The ancient alley is laden with quirky shops, tea shops, antiques, calligraphers and art studios. Maybe take a beginners art class with a local painter or enjoy a morning class at the ‘Cloud 9’ cooking school. By nightfall, sit in any of the al fresco cafes, pubs or bars serving cold beer and delicious speciality foods from the region, catch a film at any of the outdoor cinemas or attend the nightly ‘Impression Liu Sanjie’ musical, with a cast of 500 singers and dancers.
Today marks the end of your adventure with On the Go Tours. After breakfast and hotel check out we'll transfer you back to the airport in Guilin for your onward departure flight.
