Great Wall

Day 1: Beijing

Welcome to China and the start of your holiday! Enjoy an arrival transfer to our hotel. Overnight at Sun World hotel or similar.

Forbidden City

Day 2: Beijing

After breakfast we embark on a sightseeing tour of the nation’s capital and home of the 2008 Olympics including Tiananmen Squre, Forbidden city. Later, we take rickshaws to explore the Hutongs of Beijing. As our trusty rickshaw driver peddles us through the network of alleys and old back lanes, we gain a fascinating snapshot of the city’s traditional way of life. Overnight at Sun World Hotel or similar.

Day 3: Beijing

Today, drive to Badaling, where we can walk on a section of the famous Great Wall. A symbol of total Chinese genius, the Great Wall is a cultural icon. We view the lavishly decorated temples, halls and courts, reconstructed in 1902 at the Summer Palace. Overnight at Sun World Hotel or similar.

Day 4: Beijing - Xi'an

We visit the Temple of Heaven, Silk Alley. Later we travel by train to Xi’an viewing en route the Beijing 2008 Olympic Stadium and aquatic centre. Overnight train.

Day 5: Xi'an

Arrive in Xian. Met by guide and transfer to hotel. Visit the City Wall, Big Wild goose Pagoda, Muslim Market and Great Mosque. Overnight at Ramada Xian Bell Tower or similar.

Day 6: Xi'an - Chongqing

Xi’an is Shaanxi Province is perhaps most famous for Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Warriors. Discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, the 7,000 life-sized soldiers, some 2,200 years old, stand battle-ready in excavated pits under the cover of a modern protective hanger. We tour the archaeological site and Terracotta warrior replica workshop. Overnight train to Chongqing.

Day 7: Chongqing - Yangtze & Three Gorges

Arrive in Chongqing. Boarding the cruise after City tour. Yangze river cruise.

Day 8: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Yangtze River cruise. Good morning from the River Yangtze! At 6340km in length, the Yangtze is the 3rd longest river in the world, neatly dividing China into north and south and wending its way through eight very different provinces. Overnight on board.

Day 9: Yangtze & Three Gorges - Yichang

Whilst cruising, shore excursions are offered at no additional expense to Shibaozhai and Shennong stream, with its unique scenery and four natural gorges. Drift serenely along the stream in small, open ‘pea pod boats’, looking out upon lush greenery, jagged peaks and ancient villages of the Tujia people - one of the local ethnic minorities. Overnight on board.

Day 10: Yichang - Shanghai

Arrive in Yichang. Met by guide and transfer to the airport to fly to Shanghai. Met by guide and transfer to hotel. Overnight at Shanghai Sunrise on the Bund or similar.

Day 11: Shanghai

Focus your eyes on spectacular Shanghai. Perhaps China’s most modern city, its amazing Pudong skyline is stunning. We enjoy a tour of the many city sights including Yuyuan Garden, Jade Buddha Temple and The Bund, with a cruise on the Huangpu River. Overnight at Shanghai Sunrise on the Bund or similar.

Day 12: Shanghai - Suzhou

Transfer to the train station and leave for Suzhou by express train. The Venice like city is interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways. We take a cruise on the Grand Canal and visit a silk workshop and Humble Administrator's Garden. Overnight at Bamboo Grove Hotel or similar.

Day 13: Suzhou

Today go back to Shanghai by express train. Free time at leisure in the afternoon. Depart for Hongkong by overnight train.
