Today, we embark on a guided tour of the nation’s capital. Tiananmen Square, a patriotic vision of grandeur and the Forbidden city, the walled city of the former Chinese emperors boasting stunning temples, courtyards and reception halls. We take an afternoon rickshaw ride navigating the old back lanes and courtyards of Beijing’s Hutongs. Evening at your leisure.
Today we walk the famous Great Wall of China at Badaling. Said to be seen from space, the enduring symbol of Chinese civilisation and genius is a prize national treasure. Returning to Beijing in the afternoon your guide will take you to see the Summer Palace. This vast complex is replete with lavishly decorated temples, halls and courts, reconstructed in 1902 at the whim of the extravagant Dowager Empress Cixi. Evening at your leisure.
This more head out with your guide to explore the wonderful Temple of Heaven and walk around it's surrounding parklands where locals practice dancing, tai chi and more in the morning. We then visit the famed Silk Alley markets
Morning transfer to the station and catch the express train to Taiyuan (G91 0830/1100) Arriving here our local guide will meet you and take you to your hotel. Enjoy a visit to the Jinci Temple, before driving to Pingyao for the evening.
Today we explore the town - highlights will include the City Wall, The First Bank of China and Mingqing Street and more depending on level of interest. This evening we board our train to Xian (T2669 - 2135/0615+1)
Train pulls in early this morning we will meet you and take you to your hotel for breakfast. Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Warriors are reputed to be the greatest discovery of the 20th century - 7,000 life-sized clay soldiers stand ready for battle. We visit the archaeological site and the workshop where the replica warriors are crafted.
First up this morning, we tour the lofty Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The complex of temples, pagoda’s and expansive gardens, constructed during the 7th century offered refuge and a store house for Chinese Buddhists to translate the very important Buddhist sutras from India. The fun starts now as we take a leisurely bicycle ride (solo or tandem) atop the well-preserved Xi’an city wall. At a minimum of 6 metres in width, 9 miles in length - with no steep inclines the wall offers a great vantage point for peeping down upon the city hubbub below. After we visit the Great Mosque, Muslim Quarter and enjoy some free time in the city centre.
Taking to the sky we fly to Kunming. Enjoy an arrival transfer to our hotel. The capital of Yunnan Province, Kunming rests at 2000m above sea level! Its gentle weather and floral wealth have earned it the nickname ‘City of Eternal Spring’. Later today, you’ll visit the picturesque Western Hills and the Dragon Gate Grotto.
Excursion to Stone Forest. Celebrated as a natural wonder, it’s Yunnan’s most visited sight. As you stroll along the winding paths and lookout points, you’ll be in awe of the bizaare, tightly packed formations of almost ‘petrified’ stone that forms this unusual attraction 120 km from Kunming. Tonight catch the overnight (hard) sleeper train to Dali.
Arrival transfer and breakfast. After, enjoy sightseeing in Dali and surrounds includes a cruise on Lake Erhai, some orientation stops at some ancient temples and villages, a visit to Butterfly Spring - a popular spot surrounded by a marble ballustrade and overhung by an ancient tree that produces butterfly-like flowers and the famous Three Pagodas. Back in Dali,enjoy some time exploring the old section of the town with it's interesting old buildings and local ethnic people milling around.
Today you’ll travel by bus north to UNESCO-listed Lijiang - a Naxi stronghold, enjoy exploration of the Black Dragon poolwhich is a famous pond in the scenic Jade Spring Park (Yu Quan Gong Yuan) located at the foot of Elephant Hill, a short walk north of the Old Town which you explore after that wandering in the splendid labyrinthine streets of Dayan Old Town.
Enjoy an excursion to the stunning Jade Dragon Snow Mountain; its landscape includes one of the southernmost glaciers in the world. Access to the mountain is provided by a cable lift to Yunshan Terrace. We then explore the Baisha Murals housed in a historic temple and then further explore the Baisha village it-self. Our day concludes Shuhe Old Town located 2 miles north lies this is a compact village hidden in the forest and has very well preserved historic buildings.
Morning we head to the thrillingly named Tiger leaping gorge on the Yangtze River, where there is time to walk and take in the scenery. After, we travel to Shangri-La en-route making stops to visit Song Zanglin Lamasery andDukezong Old Town. Evening at leisure in Shangri-La.
Today we drive for a one night stay in Deqin. Along the way we will visit the Grand Bend of Jinsha River, Dongzhulin Monastery and Baimang Snow Mountain. After we visit the Wunongding 13 Pogadas viewing terrace to take in the magical scenery. Arriving into Deqin enjoy time at your leisure.
Morning we set off to visit the Flying Temple forest park with it's amazing Flaura and Fauna then onto Mingyong Glacier The glacier is sacred to the local peoples and is fed by snow which falls on 6,740 m (22,107 ft) Mount Meili, also known as the Meili Snow Mountain. When ready we drive back to overnight in Shangri-La.
Today it is back to Lijiang by car then take to the skies for your flight Shanghai. Arrival here and we will transfer you to your hotel.
Focus your eyes on spectacular Shanghai. Perhaps, China’s most modern city, its amazing Pudong skyline is stunning. After breakfast at our hotel, we take a tour of the many city sights including Yuyuan Garden, Jade Buddha Temple and The Bund, with a cruise on the Huangpu River.
Today we take a high speed train journey to ancient Suzhou. A sort of oriental Venice, ancient Suzhou is interwoven by a series of canals and pretty waterways which feed a series of classical gardens, laid out here since the Song dynasty, a thousand years ago. They are justly famous across China. Suzhou sits very close to the Grand Canal. We enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal, tour the Humble Administrator’s Garden and visit a silk workshop then return by train once more to Shanghai.
We head back to Shanghai airport for your flight to Guilin. You are met by our friendly local guide for transfer and hotel check in. This afternoon enjoy visiting the enormous Reed Flute Caves thereafter we visit Elephant trunk hill to take in the surrounding surreal limestone karst peak scenery.
his morning we drive to Longsheng. Here, we explore the rice terraces of the Dragon’s Backbone! Beginning at the base of Mt Longji the verdant green rice fields coil the steep mountain layer upon layer climbing to its summit. Where there is soil a terrace has been made! Taking a walk along the stone paths no more than a metre wide, we climb skyward to enjoy panoramic views of the ribbon like terraces with picturesque valleys and meandering streams below. We then drive back to Guilin by sundown.
This morning We undertake a relaxing cruise down the River Li to Yangshuo passing an endless procession of peaks and simple villages. The local fishermen use trained cormorants to catch fish and local village boys paddle out to the river boats with all manner of souvenirs. We spend some time in charming Yangshuo after check into your hotel.
Today we return to Guilin airport for your flight to Hong Kong. Arrival here and make your own way to your hotel we recommend to do so on the easily marked shuttle train as this is easier and cheaper than us pre booking a transfer for you.
