Day 2: Shanghai

The mere mention of ‘Shanghai’ conjures up mystery, romance and general decadence. Pre–1949 cosmopolitan Shanghai was a magnet for seekers of wealth, idle colonialists, explorers and the dispossessed. A legacy of these heady times is Shanghai’s Bund where on and around this waterfront promenade are a series of grandiose pre-1949 buildings. Just across the Huangpu River is the new Shanghai, a high-tech development of gravity defying skyscrapers. Today tour many of the city’s top spots including the Bund, Pudong and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and a cruise along the Huangpu River.

Access to the mountain is provided by a cable lift to Yunshan Terrace (by chairlift), halfway to the glacier peak. You will also see Baisha Mural and Baisha Village and Shuhe old town.

Day 5: Lijiang - Zhongdian (Shangri-La)

Today you discover Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia) on the way to Shangri La. Some 16km long and up to 3000m deep, it is the worlds deepest canyon. The gorge is so narrow at various points that legend has it a tiger once escaped pursuit by leaping across. visiting the gorge, you’ll have a chance to hike along a section of the stunning gorge and take in the dramatic, yet stark scenery. We also take you to Dukezong Old Town and on arrival into Shangri La we will check you into the hotel.
