Tianjin Tailormade Holidays

One of four municipalities in China, Tianjin has received more attention from both domestic and international tourists in recent years due to its excellent travel resources and rich history. With its close proximity to Beijing, a nearby port and setting alongside the Bohai Bay and stretch of the historical Grand Canal, Tianjin has flourished with an identity all of its own.

Central Tianjin is divided by the Hai River and the city centre itself is fairly compact and easy to walk around with striking European-style architecture, lively markets and ancient temples. Tianjin also boasts many museums and galleries, including the enormous Tianjin Museum, home to a 150,000-piece collection of ancient treasures. Walking along Ancient Cultural Street visitors will find shops, cafes and interesting Qing-style architecture such as the Tianhougong Temple. High on the list of markets to visit is the Shenyang Dao Antiques Market, the biggest antiques market in China. Filled with shops selling everything from porcelain and gold to paintings and jade, this bustling market is perfect for souvenir shopping and practising your bartering skills.

Dabei Monastery, the oldest and largest in town, is home to a number of impressive Buddhist statues whilst the 18th century Grand Mosque constructed of wood is an important part of the local Muslim community with many elaborate carvings. For spectacular views of the city, head to the Tianjin Radio and TV Tower. Surrounded by water, it’s the fourth largest tower in the world and features an observation area.
