9th November. Meet your Tour Leader this morning at 6am at the Eurostar Terminal in London St Pancras. Our Eurostar train departs at 6.50am for the short 1.5 hour journey through to Brussels. From Brussels, we will be catching a local intercity train to the beautiful medieval city of Bruges.

Bruges is known as the ‘Venice of the North’ due to its gorgeous canals and beautiful romantic architecture. A small city, but oozing with charm, you will have an afternoon and evening at leisure to soak up the atmosphere, and sample some of the Belgian culinary delights! Overnight - Bruges

An early start this morning. After breakfast, we depart for the WWI battlefield region of Passchendaele.

Today, we will spend the entire day learning about this war torn area, and remembering the battles and heroic stories of our fallen soldiers. There are a staggering number of battlefield sites and cemeteries in this small geographic area, and we will explore the eye-opening history of the Great War on the Western Front. Highlights will include a visit to Hill 60, the Memorial Museum of Passchendaele, Essex Farm Cemetery (the site where John McCrae wrote ‘In Flanders Fields’) and many more.

Tonight, you are free to take in the beautiful town of Ypres. We highly recommend attending the Last Post ceremony at 8pm at the Menin Gate Memorial. The Menin Gate is a memorial to over 15,000 missing soldiers and was placed at the gateway of the city as all soldiers passed through this road on their way out to the battlefields, and a tragic number of them never returned. Here, they perform the Last Post every single day, and have done so since 1928. A truly moving experience.

Later tonight, we head back to our accommodation in Lille. Overnight - Lille (B)

Remembrance Day. After an early breakfast at our hotel, we depart Lille and travel back to Ypres for the Armistice Day Commemorations at the Menin Gate. The town is flooded with people from all over the world, here to pay their respects to those that lost their lives on the Western Front. The moving service begins at 11am, and after this you will be able to enjoy a lunch break and some time for last minute shopping before we depart Ypres for the final time.

This afternoon, we visit more of the historic sites that this area is so famous for, including a visit to the German Military Cemetery at Langemark for a completely different perspective of the losses of war.

Tonight’s Eurostar departs Lille at 8.30pm and arrives back into London just after 9pm local time, where your Armistice Day Tour ends. (B)
