Egypt Travel Update

Last Updated 29 September 2014 11.35 GMT (London, UK)

The British Foreign Office (FCO) places no restrictions on travelling to most part of Egypt, including Cairo, Greater Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh. As such all our tours to Egypt are operating, some with alternative arrangements.

There are some areas that the FCO continues to recommend against all but essential travel, these include the Governorates Bani Suef, Minya, Asyut, Sohag, North Sinai and Dahab. If you tour includes an overnight train journey please read further below.

In light of the travel advice from the FCO, our policy is as follows:

  • YOUR HOLIDAY DOES NOT INCLUDE OVERNIGHT TRAIN TRAVEL

If your holiday does NOT include overnight train journeys between Cairo/ Luxor - Aswan/Cairo or vice versa, your tour will be operated exactly as per our itinerary.

  • YOUR HOLIDAY INCLUDES AN OVERNIGHT TRAIN TRIP

If your tour INCLUDES overnight train journeys between Cairo/ Aswan - Luxor/Cairo or vice versa, all overnight trains travel through four governorates where travel is restricted. Although the overnight trains do not stop at any stations within the restricted governorates, they still, however pass through them. These restrictions on the four governorates could be lifted at any time and should this occur your tour will depart exactly as per our itinerary.

Should the restrictions remain we will not be able to travel by train between Cairo and/or Luxor/ Aswan or vice versa and instead the journeys will need to be made by flight, at an additional cost to the traveller.

We understand that most people would not have budgeted for the additional flight costs and between now and your tour commencing the restrictions may be lifted. So the decision as to whether your tour will be operated by train or flight will be made 14 days prior to your tour start date. If your tour will be travelling by flight it will be listed further below on this page. You should also have received a letter from us detailing the relevant flight costs for your tour that will need to be paid upon arrival to Egypt. The approx cost for a flight from Cairo - Aswan, plus one night's accommodation is USD$150 per person. The approx cost for a flight from Luxor - Cairo, plus one night's accommodation is USD$150 per person. Each sector is approx $150. Some tours including our King Tutankhamen, Festive King Tutankhamen and Pharaohs Adventure tours require two sectors, other such as our King Ramses, Festive King Ramses, Egypt Unplugged and Road to Jordan require one.

Please click this link to the foreign office website if you require further information.

TOURS CONFIRMED AS OPERATING BY FLIGHT

We are now able to confirm that the following tours will NOT be using the overnight train service between Cairo - Luxor / Aswan and vice versa. These segments of your holiday will now be operated by flight. We ask that at this point in time that you start to make arrangements to cover the costs of these flights, payable upon arrival in Cairo. If travelling on our Jewel of the Nile tour, flight costs are payable prior to departure via your travel agent.
