Egypt Sun Festival Tours
Twice a year, Abu Simbel is witness to one of Egypt’s most famous events – the Sun Festival. Marked to coincide with both the birthday and the coronation of King Ramses II, first thing in the morning as the sun rises the inner sanctum of the temple fills with light. Inside sit the 4 statues; Ramses himself, Amun and Ra-Horakhty (the Gods of the Sun) and Ptah (the God of Darkness). Amazingly when the light filters through, all but Ptah are illuminated.
