Welcome to Egypt and the start of your journey discovering the land of the Pharaohs! Arriving into Cairo Airport, you are sure to be overwhelmed with the blazing desert heat. In the arrivals hall meet up with our friendly local team who will transfer you to your hotel for breakfast. Today we explore the Pyramids at Giza Plateau. Gaze in awe at Cheops (Khufu) - the largest of the three great pyramids. Constructed from over 2.5 million limestone blocks, it is thought to have taken more than 20 years to construct. The other two - Chephren and Mycerinus are equally impressive. OVERNIGHT - Horizons Pyramids Hotel.
Departing at 8.00am, spend the morning discovering the tomb-strewn necropolis of Saqqara, featuring King Zhoser’s step pyramid. Later, we venture to the Egyptian Museum, home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. Arguably the most famous exhibit is the stunning solid gold funerary mask of the boy-King Tutankhamen. An entire gallery is devoted to the treasures unearthed by Howard Carter at Tutankhamen’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. We return to the hotel at approximately 3pm.
Returning to Cairo Airport this morning we take a flight down south to explore the temples of Abu Simbel , created to revere the mighty pharaonic ruler King Ramses II. Enjoy plenty of time to explore the site as your hotel is located only a stones throw away. This evening enjoy the Sound and Light show at this amazing temple.
This morning you fly back to Aswan, then our expert guide will take you out to see the Philae Temple and Aswan High Dam. Philae temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis, was rescued in an enormous UNESCO effort in the 1970s. Due to high water levels in the reservoir created by the Old Aswan Dam and further aquatic drama due to the creation of the mighty High Dam, Philae temple was relocated stone by stone on higher ground on nearby Agilika Island. (OVERNIGHT AT THE HELNAN HOTEL)
We continue by road today along the banks of the Nile destined for Luxor. Along the way we make a couple of stops to visit the waterside temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu. This evening your first glimpse of Egypt's living Museum city with a trip to see the Luxor Temple, which is softly illuminated at night adding to the magical feeling of this breathtaking site.
After breakfast explore the best of Ancient Thebes; Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Temple of Hatshepsut and later Karnak temple.
