Welcome to Egypt! Upon arrival we will pick you up from Cairo airport and transfer you to Alexandria on the Mediterranean Coast. Upon arrival the remainder of the evening is free to relax.
Today we tour El Alamein, where two extended battles were fought during World War II. There is a well-tended Commonwealth war cemetery which is home to the graves and memorials of many British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers. There is also the informative El Alamein museum. It acts as a memorial for the battle and houses lots of original war vehicles, weapons, uniforms and records. It covers the whole of the story of World War II in North Africa from all sides and stands on the site where the actual battle took place. We later continue back onto Cairo for the evening.
This morning we visit the great pyramids and Sphinx at Giza Plateau. Sole survivors of the ancient Greek-listed seven wonders of the world, they were constructed from over 2.5million limestone blocks, taking more than 20 years to build. We explore this area on foot and then on camel back! Off we ride into the sands, our sturdy ships of the desert beneath us
Today we see the treasures of King Tutankhamen, mummies and more at the Egyptian Museum. In the afternoon we explore the Citadel and the bustling Khan el-Khalil. before taking the comfortable overnight sleeper train to Aswan.
Upon arrival we will pick you up from the train station and we visit the High Dam and travel by boat to the Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Remainder of day and evening free.
Early this morning there is the opportunity to enhance your holiday and prebook the Abu Simbel optional. This afternoon, we board our Nile felucca for a 2 night voyage on the River Nile downstream, stopping along the way at local villages and islands.
Disembarking in Kom Ombo we visit the temple before travelling to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, a huge complex that began construction in 237 BC! We then continue to Luxor. Home of the legendary Valley of the Kings and Temple of Karnak, 4000 year-old Luxor is ancient Egypt at it’s best. Enjoy some rest and relaxation. This evening is free of the opportunity to enhance your holiday and prebook the Lights of Luxor optional.
Afterwards, we cross to Luxor’s West Bank, where one of the first sights you’ll see is the Colossi of Memnon. Later we tour the famed Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. At Valley of the Kings, you'll note the more powerful the deceased pharaoh, the deeper and more elaborate was his tomb. Returning to the East, we’ll have a little R&R time by the pool before exploring the vast temple complex of Karnak. Lose yourself in the forest of stone papyrus columns in the huge Hypostle Hall. Karnak is an awesome, lasting legacy of the power of ancient Egypt.
Early this morning the opportunity to enhance your holiday and prebook the Hot Air Ballooning optional. Bidding farewell to Luxor, we travel by road north-west to Hurghada, a coastal resort town on Egypt’s famous Red Sea coast.
Why not pack your bathing suits, sun lotions and sun glasses and opt for a boat excursion on the Red Sea. Dropping the anchor at a location renowned for it’s safe snorkelling and swimming possibilities, you can opt to don mask, snorkel and fins for a great view of the colourful shoals of fish in the aquatic wonderland that is the Red Sea (book and pay for all optionals locally)
Bidding farewell to beach, sun and sand, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Cairo. Upon arrival we will pick you up and transfer you to your to your hotel for the evening.
