Today we visit the Pyramids of Giza. Gaze in awe at Cheops (Khufu) - the largest of the three great pyramids. Constructed from over 2.5 million limestone blocks it is thought to have taken more than 20 years to construct.The other two - Chephren and Mycerinus are equally impressive. Afterward we tour the tomb-strewn necropolis of Saqqara, featuring King Zhoser’s step pyramid, constructed by Imhotep, the pharaoh’s chief architect in 2700 BC, this was the template for all future pyramid construction. This evening you will be driven to the station for your overnight train to Luxor.
Morning arrival transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore.
Today the massive pair of statues known as the Colossi of Memnon are the first monuments we will see as we arrive on the West Bank for our sightseeing. We then proceed to visit the Valleys of the Kings and Queens and the imposing colonnaded temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Later, a visit to the complex of temples at Karnak before embarking the sleeper train back to Cairo.
After your arrival transfer visit the Egyptian Museum, home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. Arguably the most famous exhibit is the stunning solid gold funerary mask of the boy-King Tutankhamen. An entire gallery is devoted to the treasures unearthed by Howard Carter at Tutankhamen’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922.
Today you take to the sky and fly to Sharm El Sheikh. Arriving here, a transfer to Dahab awaits. Remainder of the day at your leisure.
