Day 1: Cairo

Welcome to Egypt's capital and Africa's largest city: Cairo. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred directly to your hotel. Upon reaching the hotel we will assist with your check-in and then the evening is yours to relax and freshen up.

Day 2: Cairo

Today tour the Pyramids at Giza Plateau. Gaze in awe at Cheops (Khufu) - the largest of the three great pyramids. Constructed from over 2.5 million limestone blocks, it is thought to have taken more than 20 years to construct. The other two - Chephren and Mycerinus are equally impressive. Afterward we tour the tomb-strewn necropolis of Saqqara, featuring King Zhoser’s step pyramid. Constructed by Imhotep, the pharaoh’s chief architect in 27 BC, this was the template for all future pyramid construction.

Day 3: Cairo - Aswan

This morning we venture to old Islamic Cairo and the Egyptian Museum, home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. Arguably the most famous exhibit is the stunning solid gold funerary mask of the boy-King Tutankhamen. An entire gallery is devoted to the treasures unearthed by Howard Carter at Tutankhamen’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. This evening we board our overnight sleeper train to Aswan.

Day 4: Aswan

Arrival to Aswan, check in to our hotel and a bit of free time to freshen up. This afternoon we head out for a bit of sightseeing - Philae Temple and Aswan High Dam. Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis, was rescued in an enormous UNESCO effort in the 1970s. Due to high water levels in the reservoir created by the Old Aswan Dam and further aquatic drama due to the creation of the mighty High Dam, Philae Temple was relocated stone by stone on higher ground on nearby Agilika Island.

Day 5: Aswan - Nile Cruising

An early flight down south to explore the temples of Abu Simbel, created to revere the mighty pharaonic ruler King Ramses II. Guarding the entrance to the temple (built between 1290 and 1224 BC) hewn into the side of a mountain are four famous colossal statues of the pharaoh himself. Returning to Aswan, you have some free time - perhaps visit the colourful souqs and markets or simply relax in this attractive town on the River Nile. This afternoon, board the luxury Nile cruiser, for your three night cruise up the River Nile.

Day 6: Nile Cruising

Relax, soak up the sun and take in the riverside village views from the top deck as you cruise up the River Nile! A stop will be made at the waterside Temple of Kom Ombo.

Day 7: Nile Cruising

Having the distinction of being the largest and most completely preserved pharaonic, albeit Greek-built, temple in Egypt, the Temple of Horus at Edfu, dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus, was one of the last monumental temples built on a large scale. An early morning stop is made to view the temple and onward sailing to Luxor. Evening viewing of Luxor temple.

Day 8: Nile Cruising - Luxor

Ancient Thebes at its best, Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Temple of Hatshepsut and later Karnak temple. Karnak is a spectacular myriad of sanctuaries, pylons, halls and obelisks, all dedicated to the Theban gods and to the greater glory of Egypt’s Middle and New Kingdom rulers.
