Today, enjoy a visit to the Pyramids at Giza, one of the sole survivors from the ancient Greek listed Seven Wonders of the World. In front of the pyramids sits the Sphinx, an enormous statue with the face of a man and body of a lion. Later, we explore the necropolis of Saqqara, with its litany of ancient tombs and famous centre piece, Zhoser’s step pyramid.
We start the day’s sightseeing with a trip to the Egyptian Museum to see the dazzling antiquities of ancient Egypt on display there, including the amazing treasures of King Tutankhamen. This afternoon we take a tour of Old Coptic Cairo, where we’ll find the Citadel and some of the oldest Christian churches in the world, including the Hanging Church. This evening enjoy a visit to the khan el khalili markets.
This morning you will drive you to Alexandria on the Mediterranean Coast. Arrive Alexandria and you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
This morning enjoy a full days sightseeing tour of Alexandria. Founded by Alexander the Great, Alexandria boasts wonderful beaches and an impressive seafront corniche, along which are dotted cafes and restaurants, as well as catacombs, souks and relics from a bygone age.
This morning we will drive you to Port Said on the Mediterranean Coast. Arrive Port Said and you will be met and transferred to your hotel
Located west of the Sinai Peninsular, the Suez Canal is a large artificial maritime canal connecting the Mediterranean at Port Said with the Red Sea at Suez. A feat of nineteenth-century engineering, at 163 km long and 300 m wide at its narrowest point, the canal allows two-way north-to-south maritime transportation, most importantly between Europe and Asia without circumnavigation of Africa. Today enjoy a visit to the suez canal.
This morning we will drive you to the ferry port for the ferry to Aqaba in Jordan. Arrive Aqaba and you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Petra. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.
Today we explore Petra. Taking a walk through the mysterious siq (an ancient passage created due to a geological fissure) we are confronted by the rose-red facade of the Treasury. Amazing Nabataean and Roman ruins are on tap here at Petra. The intrepid can ascend the many stone carved steps to Ad-Deir better known as the Monastery.
Today we revisit Petra this morning before we head to Madaba. Famed for it’s Byzantine mosaics, including the fascinating map of the Holy Land made in the 6th century out of two million stone pieces and now housed in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, Madaba, its mosaics and little shops offers us gentle respite. Transfer to your hotel in Amman.
Today we driving north and visit the Roman ruins of Jerash. Recognised as one of the best-preserved member cities of the Decapolis, Jerash is deservedly one of Jordan’s major attractions. The traditional Roman street is very impressive and still boasts chariot ruts. We continue to Ajlun before returning to Amman.
Transfer to the airport in time for your international flight back home. (International flight not included).
