Welcome to Jordan! Upon arrival at Amman's Queen Alia airport you will be met and transferred directly to Petra, a 2 hour drive away. Check in to your hotel and spend the remains of the day at leisure.
After breakfast, spend the day with your private guide exploring the ancient Nabatean Rose City of Petra - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Access the hidden archaeological treasures of the Rose City on a walk through a narrow, deep siq, where the rocks finally give way to reveal the famous facade of Al-Khazneh (the Treasury). It's also possible to ride a horse through the Siq. Once inside, discover tombs, temples, an impressive amphitheatre and a Roman colonnaded street. If you're feeling energetic ascend the hundreds of rock-cut steps to Ad-Deir. Better known as the Monastery, Ad-Deir has a similar facade to that of the Treasury, but is far bigger and the views from the nearby cliff-tops are incredible!
Take a short drive to Little Petra and the Baidha Neolithic village. Although much smaller than Petra, Baidha is crammed to the brim with tombs, temples and houses. Journey over the Heisha mountains to tour Shobak a 12th Century Crusader Castle perched on the side of a rocky mountain, before proceeding to Madaba, to see the world’s largest collection of ancient mosaics and visit the St. George Church with its famous 6th Century map of the Holy Land. Continue on to Mt. Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land, here you can take in the wonderful view of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Jericho and (if it's clear) Jerusalem. Finally descend to the Dead Sea where you can take a dip in buoyant mineral rich waters.
Take a final dip in the dead sea this morning before returning to Amman's Queen Alia airport for your onward flight to Sharm el Sheikh (not included) The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Today is at your leisure to relax and explore on your own. The naturally dramatic landscape surrounding Sharm el-Sheikh, year-round dry and temperate climate and long stretches of calm beaches, makes Sharm a Mecca for the sun lover in search of recreation. Scuba diving and snorkeling offers a spectacular and dazzling time for divers, whilst aqua pursuits such as banana boating, windsurfing and kayaking are offered by most hotels. There’s good nightlife and restaurants aplenty, and one can even play a top round of golf, have a flutter at the casino or get in touch with the surrounding Bedouin communities on a hired camel or horse.
Early this morning (approx. 7.30am) drive through the changing scenery of Sinai to visit the Monastery of St Katherine. The Greek Orthodox St Katherine's origins date back to 337 AD, when the Byzantine Empress Helena ordered construction of a chapel around the Burning Bush, already a focus for pilgrims and hermits. It functions today with more than 20 monks in residence (the monastery is closed on Friday and Sunday) Enjoy lunch at one of the hotels of St Katherine before continuing on to Dahab where you have some free time to explore the shops and bazaars of Assala. Later transfer back to Sharm.
Today is at your leisure.
Sadly your tour with us comes to an end today. You will be transferred to the airport in time for your departure flight.
